  • If you have open registrations you’ll be doing a lot of moderation for spam.

    Perhaps Captchas are sufficient?

  • We require applications

Is this functionality built into the Lemmy software?

    Addendum (2024-11-11T00:32Z):

Ah, yeah, it looks like it is configurable in the admin panel [1].

  • You should probably also have more than one person with access to the server, to avoid the problems we had with feddit.de .

Which problems are you referring to?

    • data ingress/egress
    • storage (block and DB)

Do you have any estimations on the relationship between user count and average data transfer rates, and the average rate of storage increase?

  • choose your host wisely

Do you have any particular recommendations for a host?

  • I've never used AirVPN, but I've used Mullvad for a few years and I rarely ever have any issues with it. I won't deny that I have few complaints, but the complaints that I do have are quite minimal. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mullvad based on my own experience.

  • there’s no style to it

I mean, it depends on how you are defining "style", but, to avoid being pedantic, I actually think that it does have a style, and a very recognizable and unique style at that. It has a very maximalist, industrial, gritty look to it that I love. Everything is so hyper-detailed in model design, texture, and animation. It all fits a very specific aesthetic. It's completely fine if that aesthetic is not to your taste, but I think it's disingenuous to say that it has no style at all.

  • I hate old games.

Is 2020 considered old...?. I understand that the game was available for some time prior to that, but during that period Factorio was in early access. 1.0 came out in 2020, and I am treating that as the full release, and everything prior to that is beta testing for development.

  • Factorio's art really does kinda suck.

I will restate the original question: What do you not like about it?

  • I'm not interested in Factorio because imo it looks terrible.

What do you not like about it?

  • three

    Jump
  • When did we reach the point of deep fried Tintin?

  • Can you clarify what you mean by "unique"?

  • You can, at least, do that externally through RSS:

  • Honestly, from a day to day standpoint, by my experience of using both, there's little practical difference between, for example, yay, and paru — it mostly just ends up coming down to subjective, nitpicky meta things about the program itself.

Up until this post, I hadn't heard of Aura, but, after briefly looking at its repo, it appears that it's effectively the same as yay and paru [1.2]; what it tries to do differently is it tries to ensure that there are translations of it (I'm guessing its output) in other languages [1.1.1]. One thing that I'm knee-jerk not super fond of is that it utilizes its own centralized metadata server [1.1.2], though I admit that I haven't thought about that a great deal, so perhaps there are some aspects that about it that I'm missing, or perhaps misunderstanding, or perhaps there's a different way to view it.

  • At least the two hemispheres are separated.
