The country is called the United Kingdom, the island is called Great Britain, the group of islands including Ireland (the island) and Great Britain is called the British Isles, and England is one of the constituent countries of the UK

To make it even more confusing, some languages, like Polish, call the United Kingdom the equivalent of "Great Britain"

I can understand a scary amount of this

Dialects exist

Clearly, the solution is to make your own writing system for English and then have noone use it so it just looks like weird gibberish to them

If you also make up a way to pronounce them, a grammar and potentially a culture to go with it, you've just made a conlang
