  • Very glad you asked!

Rehabilitation centers aiming at helping these people and reintegrating them into society instead of punishing them.

I think we lost the story with our prison system, currently it only punishes and that helps no one IMO.

I do not believe people just wake up and decide to do crime, there are usually systemic problems that leaves them no options. If I am starving I will also steal. So punishing me will do nothing there will be other starving people and they will steal too. Understanding these people and the problems and decisions that led them on this path is vital if society is to exist IMO.

The good thing is that some Nordic countries are with a similar viewpoint so there are some attempts at improving the prison system. Article

The bad thing is that america exists and if you read anything on the American prison system they look horrendous, if you read a bit more you will know it's just slavery.

  • Overall agree, but I would like to add that radical parties and violent action IMO will not solve any problem alone, there is also please for peaceful protests, for writing manifestos, for writing license agreements and of course for writing open source code.

  • I don't want to discourage you, so go for it, it may be fun and you may learn some things or at least think on difficult topics like:

How do you measure human suffering?

How do you deal with extremists that truly believe their cause?

And maybe most interesting what if the radicals are not wrong? (Talking about topics like climate change or overthrowing oppressive regimes)

If this can give you hope I cope by knowing that open source at least sometimes levels the field for the disadvantaged. Like the situation with Deepseek and openAI

  • https://www.positive.news/ is what you are looking for.

And for distraction I use: https://youtube.com/@dailydoseofinternet

But in the end of the day it doesn't really help, the only other thing that can help you is joining a group that fights for what you think it is important, that way at least you know you are doing something to help. Be the smart person who leads to de-escalation!

  • It seems to me they are both rigidly hierarchical structures, with very low social mobility mostly based on birth. But aside from that, there is not much more in common I think.

  • AI tool sounds cool, but if that is the main purpose of the community please specify it in the community info. A lot of people including me will not be on board to train a AI tool.

A debate community on its own sounds quite fun though.
