  • I am using the app. I sent a message to Stix the admin of the instance and magically a few hours later I was able to see everything (but no response). I wonder if there is a timed lockout or simply a soft ban to prevent spam on that instance. I also verified that discover indeed linked to other instances, but the results were still all but useless.

However, there is still no way I can find to switch to or even view the global feed on the app, but I can do that on the web browser app easily. Is there a setting that I am missing or so? It is very straightforward on every mastodon and lemmy app...

  • I use podcasts to escape so I more lean towards comedy podcasts. My top is

    Regulation Podcast (PREVIOUSLY F**kFace)

    • 4 guys and Andrew (who didn't know what the shift key did) shooting the shit, coming up with zany and dumb ideas and having way too much burger confidence

My Brother My Brother and Me

    • 3 brothers doing different bits, talking about fast food news, making jokes about pop culture and bad movies

    Clutch my Pearls

    • 3 girls started their own smut podcast where one of them who only reads true crime is introduced into the very very weird world of smut novels. With very funny readings from the books

    We're Here to Help

    • A comedy advice podcast with Jake Johnson from New Girl where they get questions like "my kids got a trampoline and my neighbor likes to walk around naked outside" and "my coworker likes to take their socks off at work" and "I brought muffins every week to work since I started and now they call me the muffin man and excpect muffin deliveries". Quite fun.

    Then more seriously

    Swindled

    • The stories of how the great (and often mainstream) scam artists get found out and topple from power

    Nerdland Podcast

    • (In Dutch) a podcast about new developments in science and technology. Sadly very often about AI or Musk now but they try to keep that to a minimum.

  • When has there been a revolution without a revolt in all of history?

When has there been a 180° change without a revolution in all of history?

In much of the world, Unions were forged in blood of many revolts.

Nation separation and independence was almost exclusively revolution.

Even the civil rights (which most people have been whitewashed into thinking was peaceful) had the black panthers. They have been completely villified, but the civil rights movement would not have succeeded without their willingness to use violence.

History has shown time and time again that violence works and peaceful movements are stamped out 99% of the time.

  • I would strongly argue that it is more difficult now.

There is mass communication, yes, but 90% of that communication is rolled on over to the government with the exact location, search history, secrets, psychological profile, medical histoey, vices, everything at the tip of their fingers for every single dissident to exploit and blackmail them into stopping.

In those days if a letter wasn't signed and resistance posters were put up at odd hours, nobody would be able to track down the leader and who was doing it. Now, the surveillance state is so big, it would take a matter of hours to make a full roster of the resistance and have an "accidental" police raid on their house where they are killed "by mistake" and it is ruled a suicide.

The entire success of revolution movements came out of anonymity and the fact that the government couldn't snuff out the organization and break it up. Now, with technology, it is quite trivial to break anonymity anywhere on the main internet. Long lasting organization is much much harder.

That isn't even getting into engineered addictive media to keep people occupied and demotivates just enough to not get organized.

To me, the entire idea behind federation is that, like mastodon and Lemmy, you can see everything in the space, not just what is on your own server, especially by default or extremely upfront and clear way to make the behavior like that. That is the entire thing people are afraid of when they have to choose a server which leads to centralization or people simply leaving.

I mean I also don't get any of the hashtags I follow on my feed. Only the 5 accounts they forced me to follow by default.

It's hard for me to believe the number of 44k monthly active users and yet the "most popular accounts" that I can see on discover have 45 followers and there is virtually no activity outside of a few photographers that imported their Instagram account.

  • Lol less that 1% of users probably think about the prerequisite line of thinking to even start that argument, then probably 1% of those would make that argument. A fraction of a percent won't cause any change at all.

What has been proven time and time and time and time again are that humans are extremely extremely lazy and will not do anything at all unless there is a direct and present threat to them or their way of life. Hence why the wealth gap can be almost the worst in history with only 1 person actually having done something at all meaningful about it across the world. People still haven't moved off of fucking twitter, they aren't going to move off of Instagram. Especially not when "influencers" that draw the most people make their livelihood specifically from being on Instagram.

  • Interesting because i just joined 1 day ago so my feed only has 5 default following, but discover only has about 5 other peoples' work repeated through the discover tab. It seems difficult to discover new people which could be a problem in retaining normal people after the ibflux, like what happened to lemmy

  • Actually foxconn makes a ton of the low-cost android and android go phones used in China, India, Indonesia, and Africa. Many of the phones made by foxconn (like HMD/Nokia for example) barely register as having sold units in the US.

  • My girlfriend runs a kid-friendly café for younger moms and sadly it would probably tank her business moving over to pixelfed... It's quite a big risk for those kind of small businesses..

  • The police and supporting/protecting nazis. Name a more iconic duo.

  • There is a new Dutch renovation show that has a girl with exactly that build. She had to call another contestent info the bathroom because she couldn't get her leggings pulled up over her ass. It's definitely causes real problems but if it's not a fake butt is another question.

  • Maybe it's like 1.05 years, but that round up

  • 5600G is 140 on amazon. Arc a570 is 200. Less than double the price with like 7 or 8X the performance and not wasting the good 3600X chip. It is a 4060 but for 200 bucks. Crazy deal for the times.

Probably the way to go to be honest. The a570 is miles more power efficient than the old r9 390, but you know your budget and preferences best.

  • Yeah, true I have to use English because the Dutch/Flemish Wyoming pipeline is completely unusable. Every word is completely wrong in the STT pipeline, even simple words.

I have no idea what you are talking about with "not open source" did you reply to the wrong comment?

  • The only problem with RSS is that it doesn't work for many many news sources as well as niche interests.

The RSS feeds on most of my country's news sources are literally a headline with a link to their website. Plus the ones that it does work for break multiple times per year (at least on feeder) so being able to actually fetch the article is a toss up. Right now even with freshly added feeds, 9 out of 10 are "cannot fetch full article".

I find most people's blogs rather boring and uninspired or extremely longwinded. I much prefer the kind of organic conversations from forums. Algorithms point me to the 4-5 pieces of content from people that I find interesting. I don't often subscribe to them because their other content is not as interesting.

With RSS feeds I would have to manually search through hundreds of articles and blog posts just to find 3 that I might actually be interested in. For example the less niche Phoronix has like 20 articles per day that are essentially fluff article padding updates like "video acceleration improvements merged for Mesa 25". Like I don't care at all. But the LACT Intel support addition I would be interested in 10 articles down.

  • Nah that isn't really true.

I run my server on an AMD 2700X and voice assistant without GPU acceleration with a medium sized model takes normally under 3s. It doesn't even spike my CPU usage to a very high level. Just don't use a raspberry pi for it lol.

I was talking about the "nabu" platform that they use in the source code more. I have never seen that "platform" before and it is not a component. It isn't listed in ESPHome documentation at all.

Normally you cannot use a media player and a speaker component at the same time. You can use voice assistant with a media player but there seems to be some bugs. If this "nabu" platform does not require cloud integration and fixes those issues, that is huge for the DIY voice assistant satellite building community.

  • And who were they struck down by? Courts personally selected and stacked by Mitch McConnell for decades? It's almost as if installing partisan corporatocratic and theocratic judges have been a main goal for one of the parties for nearly 50 years.
