  • We can see the title tags, which means we can see the html defining that cover. We don't, however, see any html tags that define the colors for the text; therefore they must be utilizing css or another tool to generate color information

  • About a year in and a couple distro hops, the only time I've had something properly break on its own was when my Fedora Sway install forgot where to find font info.

That was the last time I distrohopped, went to Endeavour and got quite cozy with the "fuck you do it yourself" mentality. If my stuff was gonna break, I should at least expect it and have plans

  • (Don't ask how)

I imagine you just couldn't find the words at the time but I would have, with relative accuracy, summed this up as:

"Each server on that web can communicate with every other server on that web by using 'secret' information to determine a path to get there"

Each federated service is on its own web

I know you said simplification to the point of inaccuracy, but while I'm being pedantic:

"Each federated service is on its own web, but imagine they overlap with each other in such a way to bleed into a single web"

  • There are only very minor...

And most of the things that impact it can be changed (relatively) easily once you know enough about poking around in config files, so if you like how Cachy or Arch or whatever does it's presets you can definitely model your own machine after them. Just be careful, cause you're talking about kernel-space for a lot of that

  • I like to tell every eyeglass wearer I meet about Zenni. Your insurance may or may not cover it, but you probably won't care because they only charge about $20 per pair of glasses unless you need bonkers lenses.

  • Is it giving you an error code? Could probably google it to figure out what package is affecting it and then roll that back if you are. If launching something normally isn't throwing a code, try launching from the terminal and see if it gives you anything useful to put into a search engine

  • Reserved memory

Some times. This is actually where we run into one of the issues with open source software, competing standards. Some tools will call your swap or cache "reserved" regardless if it's actually being used or not. They're not wrong, it is reserved, but it's reserved for usage in emergency situations rather than being reserved in the way we look at the rest of memory

  • Do you have pets? My first project will be cages for my electronics to keep my cats away from them, eventually I want to put together a hall tree. They're like coat hangers with a seat and storage for your shoes, but I'll also add a section for my work clothes

  • Lemmy is a link aggregator, this guy posted a link to his website and a brief (albeit lacking, I will agree with you there) description of what the links were. I don't see any issue promoting free content in the forms of links on a link aggregator.

I also think there's sort of a social agreement that if you're going to make a comment about a post that exists purely as a link to elsewhere, you should probably click the link so that you know what is being discussed instead of what we're doing, discussing the link itself lol.

  • I dunno if you're trolling me or if your UI just looks different but

Having the link at the top of the post like this, because it's embedded into the actual post instead of the body like the second link, makes it pretty clear to me that that's a discussion link and not a podcast link
