  • It's been a long, loooong time since I've uttered these words, but: THAT ABSOLUTELY KICKS ASS. (or Romulan pastrami, whatever)

Now, there's always going to be a quibble, so here's mine: Leonard Nimoy was about 6' in actual height, and I believe Jon Frakes is about 6'3" - 6'4," right around Michael Dorn's height, for example.

Still-- I get it. If the artist is trying to suggest the outsized influence of Spock, I understand. I mean, Shatner was utterly magnificent in his role, but Nimoy was also right there with him, a brilliant, iconic presence that helped turn TOS in to what might have otherwise been "Lost in Space."

  • The only influence German has now is the odd loanword, like Weltschmerz and Schadenfreude.

    Hahahahaha! XD

Good luck, bro. (you're gonna NEED it)

  • I love this comic, because "never quit / never surrender" is one of the godamn stoopidest phrases in our culture.

How about: "Take a break, re-tool, gather yourself, ask yourself if this is what you really want, and if so, can our methodology and stress-relief be improved? Well then, well then!"

  • I'd be interested in learning, because German is the biggest contributor to modern English along with French. Of course the split happened long, long ago, but still...

It would have to be a couple years though, after I (knock on wood) am done getting to about B2/C1 on French.

  • Good points. I remember that one can buy powdered tomato and a whole bunch of other useful powdered items on Amazon, etc. One can also buy that certain seasoning that makes movie-theatre popcorn taste so good.

  • chicken powder separately

Unfortunately, the ones around here aren't all that great. Going by a ramen packet right now, it looks like this "Maruchan" version probably has more spices and dehydrated veggies than the straight chicken powder. Also, methinks the OXO cubes would be pretty hard to sprinkle over popcorn(!)

That said, there's all kinds of great popcorn toppings (store bought and homemade), so I don't suspect it's a big problem.

  • No no…we had it fixed for centuries

I really don't understand you there.

No, in fact the very founding of the USA was arguably done primarily so that the ruling class could disregard the respectful boundaries that the English imposed to avoid strife with Native Americans and other colonial powers, which incidentally tended to curb our exploiting the land willy-nilly as we've shamelessly done since. It also locked out women and slave voters, preserving a classist system.

Since then there's been various periods of little / negligible useful social policies, as well as periods in which the ultra-wealthy and common capitalists were UNCHECKED in their ability to thoroughly exploit people and form monopolies, etc etc. Seriously, if the Roosevelts hadn't come along, those things might have progressed scarily unchecked.

So, no-- I certainly don't see evidence that our form of democracy was 'fixed for centuries.' No, the fact is it's been a shaky, wild, perilous ride from the day one.

...the 1964 presidential campaign, as that’s the markings of the first ever attack ad.

Maybe in terms of TV, but TV is just a natural extension of media, and media in the States has been used since... at least the early 1800's? to completely slag-off or outright attack enemy candidates. Indeed, it's been a perfect blood-bath of disinformation at times, which doesn't even address all the nasty, vile tricks used to disenfranchise, or outright turn away undesirable voters at the polls. Which yes-- includes outright violence against undesirable voters across centuries in the States.

    So, yeah... that all happened.

Altho I DO agree with you that somewhere between 50-70yrs back, the USA has been outright under attack by right-wingers, paving the way for fascism. Basically attacking most of the progress made under FDR and even Republican presidents like Ike.

  • So what was inside besides lettuce?

I make these wraps sometimes, but I'll have to try a version with salad mix, and without noodles.

  • if it’s once a year. If we did it every night…

Around here (MidWest city), fireworks go off every night for a month before, and then a month after the fourth. And I don't mean a small amount, either. More like some version of the Vietnam War. It's nuts.

Basically, most of summer is devoted to fireworks play, with the fourth being a deluxe version of the "fun."

  • Thanks, Ella!

Yes I agree, some privacy payment info would probably help folks like me in future. I don't have much experience (nor confidence) in this area and could frankly use a slight bit of hand-holding, haha.

  • I'll try again tomorrow. I'm having some trouble here today.

I also missed the part about using Github, and of course I don't know what my options are for that either.

So for virtual CC, I'll try setting that up with my bank, altho it might be a little bit of a long-shot. As an alternative, would you recommend something like... "Privacy.com" I seem to recall?

  • Thank you.
I'm indeed living in the USA at this time.

In which case, do you have any thoughts about how I might make a donation to this instance? TBH I'm a bit scared about giving out my credit / debit card info, so I tend to err on the side of extreme caution.

Just set up an acct with one of those four agencies, I imagine?

  • Oy, now I understand why I wasn't seeing your latest content!

Hmm, I haven't hyperventilated in a long time.

  • Christians have an utter landslide of reasons to believe the most outlandish of complete nonsense, but I've always been a fan of science, facts, and reality.

    So I thank you. <3

  • I think I'll refrain from posting a pic here, but mom had a 'plant-bent' that she followed up on by eventually becoming a certified 'master gardener' via series of courses.

In parallel with that, over the course of many years, mom took the little suburban backyard we had and transformed it in to... holy Willy Wonkas... a sort of 'lush paradise,' and with each square foot or so, it consisted of generally non-native, fascinating species. I.e., plants with interesting herbal qualities, incredible flowers, or whatnot.

Earlier, we'd rescued two stray cats, and it was really fun seeing them go back outside and frolic in mom's garden. Hahaha, it was like an amusement park to them, one in which they became undeniably blissful and non-argumentative. (see, they didn't like each too much, despite being sister littermates)

  • you’re claiming that they’re misusing the anti-CSAM feature to remove comments from the modlog

Right, that was one aspect of that, but at the end of the day?

What ML has clearly done is to fuck with the integrity of the Lemmy-sphere across multiple, fundamental levels, and that's what I and many others find completely unacceptable, and have of course stated as much.

Seriously, how is it even possible that you're browsing the FV and haven't seen this shit...?

Yes, yes-- I get the fact that you're a 'self-declared weirdo!' "Big proponent for killing all cis men! Token Trotskyite!"

You DO understand of course that civilisation is collapsing fast, much of it due to our bloody inactions, is it not..?

  • So this is coming up on the one-year anniversary, when I was beyond frustrated with Reddit, when I decided to 'jump in to the FV,' and was matched up with this particular random instance / site.

Dudes... I feel like I'm the luckiest person in the universe.

OP has not only taken his personal time to help me across multiple various issues, but even resurrected my community when I accidentally deleted it a couple months ago(!)

Our little Euro-art community, such as it is, would simply NOT be possible without OP.

I am BEYOND grateful, sir. <3

  • Absolutely.
I will make it a special point tomorrow to look up the many, many posts upon that matter made in the last couple days across the FV.

One also wonders what people like you were doing in the meantime, but never fear-- please DO add on with any more requests for such information in the coming days. I will be happy to do the lookups and get back to you. ^^
