  • I can see it a whole lot better in bed, or around the house. The phone is too small. I only use the phone outside of the house when I'm mobile, except for hotels, then I'll use the tablet.

  • Same. Been a hobby since I was 13 back in 1984. 39 years later, I'm still doing my hobby and being paid for it. I've made a career out of it. Although, I've done it so much I no longer do it as a hobby. It's just too much. If I never saw another computer or programming language again for the rest of my life, I don't think I'd mind. Hoping to retire within the decade.

  • This has happened to me so many times. Frustrating and stupid being belief. Are they hiring 10 year olds to write the html/script? Sheesh.

  • Ouch. That sounds like a pain in the arse. I joined lemmy world several days ago without issue. I joined due to the population size. I have encountered where lemmy.world has been down, slow, and hacked, in the few days I've been participating. So that's not good and it lends credence to what you are experiencing.

I've been looking for a new instance myself due to the growing pains lemmy.world has experienced since the reddit exodus.

You are right, it makes no sense to not offer support outside of being logged into a lemmy instance. It reminds me of my internet ISP. They advertise if you need support, go to

    <some address.com>

. Meanwhile I can't even get onto the internet. Makes no sense.

Anyway, good luck to you. Hope to continue to see you around even if it's on another instance.

  • Yup. I had this dream on May 8, 1994:

    ---start---

Reports are continuing to come in... they are confirming that the United States of America has just been taken over and is now under South African rule. "Control Panel Warfare" is what they are calling it. Rumors that the President has attempted suicide are circulating around the globe. "It's all done through computers," someone said. They have taken over with computers.

Everything will change. There will be no more homeless. Effective immediately this is now a police state. We were all in a room when my mom came in and announced this information. I think we were in a conference room at the hospital where she works. As she announced this terrifying news, the tone in the room went from joking to a stomach-turning sour in a matter of seconds. The look on my dads face... he was horrified. No one could believe their ears!

I thought an announcement this shocking would only come from the news that nuclear war has just broken out and we only had a few more moments to live. The news that the U.S. had just been taken over was incredibly shocking, yet at the same time I thought to myself that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. So I guess I was horrified and not surprised all at the same time.

    ---stop---

  • I'm interested in hearing more about the Lemmy cycle thing that's annoying you. If you're willing, what happened? I joined lemmy.world and haven't ventured anywhere else yet.

  • If I'm sick of something, I don't quit, I change direction.

  • Pardon my ignorance. How does on3i join this from lemmy? The link just brings me to the kbin website and asks me to login.

  • So I just tried this, on Android. Yes it is pretty nice. Wish it would do plain .txt files too. Or even source code and syntaxes highlighting for different file types. Limited to just MD files sucks. Not really interested in the whole "canvas" thing. UI is a bit clunky on Android, but not terrible.

Currently using Acode front F-Droid for Android, which addresses the issues named above. And it's FOSS, which Obsidian is not.

  • It is said men have two (2) deaths. The first is physical. The second is when your influence in the world is no longer felt and your name has been spoken for the very last time.

As the great author Terry Pratchet has proclaimed, "No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away..."

So it is in that vein in which my use of the word "immortal" was intended. Immortal was used in a purposefully exaggerated way to impress upon the reader the great significance and glory of the discoverer in making such a discovery.

My comment was intended in a poetic light, rather than logically or scientifically.

  • I guess that's one of the selling points on how Jack will make money. Get a small percentage as a fee for each micro payment. I guess that's their revenue model instead of advertisers. It makes sense to not be beholden to the whims of advertisers perception potential market loss (i.e., censor things or lose revenue). But like you, I'm totally not into the crypto thing.
