  • What's the difference between Orbit and Tor Browser? I always wondered why people download Orbot instead of Tor Browser?

  • Do you? I've tried. Not fun. I use vim everyday on my workstation. On Android tiny keyboard, hard pass.

  • I see. I switched from emacs to vim years ago and now I've forgotten most of the key chords in emacs. Nevertheless, seems like an awful way to edit files on a small android device. I tried vim for android and it was quite challenging. Not something I want to repeat.

  • I am aware of that route. But I'm looking for a text editor that will do it. You know, select some rows, click tools->sort. Seems easy enough.

  • No, looking for a text editor. Seems simple enough and it's very useful.

  • My question is regarding Android apps. I thought that was implied by the community name. My apologies for the confusion.

  • No, sorting text in the document. Sort all lines in document.

    From this:

             Paper

         Altitude

         A better book

    To this:

             A better book

         Altitude

         Paper

  • That's how I pronounce it, just to be weird. I also say ja-lap-oh-no and kay-so-dilla.

  • Last time I heard about it, it was exactly like you mention. I find the articles very misleading.

  • Conquering death. No, not an MD or scientist. The question had no bounds so I shot for the moon.

  • This is what I like about the fediverse. I asked a similar question on Reddit a long time ago. Got a snarky comment "it is what it sounds like" and nothing else.

    Thanks for answering.

  • Some perspective would always be nice, or a distance legend. Like, could you see a human from that distance? A football stadium? A banana?

  • I mean, they need to measure where your eyeball lands on the glass when looking straight ahead. This isn't part of the prescription, from what I understand. Usually, a salesperson will do the measuring. In light of this, do you have any further information as to how your father obtained that information and how he provided it to the online store?

  • ¿Was the chicken place called Los Dos Hermanos?

  • How do they deal with progressive lenses, like top top is for long distance gradually further down is for closeup like reading?

I think that is what had prevented me from trying the online stores. Has that been addressed?

  • It was certainly iconic. Felt like the glory days of computers, networking, and user groups. I always got that excited feeling like when you're a kid and anything is possible! It was before extreme specialization, and you literally could learn everything. It was a time when we felt like we had something special before the masses were even aware of it.

Then ISPs popped up, and we ditched our modems and BBS's for IRC and Usenet. Still before the masses were aware. Still a special time.

Then, eventually, corporations got wind of a new market to target, and the masses moved in. They used ridiculous names like portals, email chains, properties, social media, etc., and everything went to shit fast. It felt like something special was taken away from those of us who were at the beginning. It lost that special feeling and turned toxic in no time.

Some embraced it, but more rejected it and would not dare join Facebook or MySpace or wherever corporate, ad-infested places the lemmings amassed. Instead, we created niche places a bit too technical for the sheeple to follow. We became rebels of conformity. And then, we became old and obsolete.

It was a concurrent evolution and devolution as we were thrown toward the modern-day internet.

Regardless of how it turned out, I am very thankful and glad I was a part of that early, amazing culture!

  • Sysop... reminds of the good ol' BBS days. What a great time that was.

  • I'm going back and forth still between Connect and Sync. Two reasons: can't post from Sync yet and 2) lots of failed to load image bugs in Sync (which oddly enough, preview works fine for those images that failed to load).
