  • Yes, if he breaks... His supporters have literally taken the stance of "wearing diapers and shitting your pants is manly."

If he breaks, it's because that's what a man does. Hell, if video came out of him going down on some dude, you'd see all his homophobic followers wear "I suck dick for Trump" shirts, loud and proud, and with no hint of irony.

Nothing matters to them anymore except Trump, so nothing Tru.o does can dissuade them... They'll just change whatever they like/hate to stay on the team.

Even if they put him in jail, it'd be like when Capone went. He'll get his own cell by himself with a TV to watch fox news on, they'll give him a phone to tweet his bullshit, probably a personal chef to make him Big Macs and Diet Cokes.

This isn't the case that's gonna fix the justice system, even if we did throw him in jail.

  • I've heard before that there is a tendency of these tests to over-report European ancestry and under-report or misidentify ethnic minorities. Something to do with the underlying datasets not being inclusive enough because those populations are smaller and don't purchase these DNA tests at the same rate as Western Europeans.

There also seems to be a weird fetishisation of First Nations ancestry in parts of the US. I've also been told I have Cherokee ancestors, but it didn't show in my dna ancestory either.

  • I'm still amazed that Prigozhen lasted as long as he did after playing chicken with Putin like that...I don't think things would have gotten materially better if he'd finished his march but it's hard to imagine it getting worse (at least outside of Russia).

  • I worked at McDonald's for quite a while as a teen. A regular hamburger patty there is 1/10 lb and a quarter pounder is...as you might suspect 1/4 lb. That would make an adult deer weight between 80 - 200 lbs.

The average weight of an adult male whitetail deer is 203 lb (maximum, 405 lb). The average weight of a female is about 155 lb (maximum, 218 lb).

I don't recall receiving any training on the weight of the condiments or buns, but I'd suspect they weight slightly more than the small patty amd slightly less than the larger one, so let's assume 1/5 lb. That changes our original 80 - 200 lb range to be 240 - 360 which is a little too heavy.

In conclusion, hamburgers are a shit measurement, but if you had a mix of 800 child-size and adult-sized burgers and you hit it with your truck, it would do a similar amount of damage as hitting a deer.

  • Yeah, but the guy that thinks sharing snuff films at work ok is likely to also be the kind of guy that is vehemently homophobic...and I mean the more scientific definition where exposure causes physical disgust or discomfort as opposed to the more political definition of just not viewing them as equals. I don't think it's a huge leap to assume this is the kind of person that would have the same visceral experience they shared with OP...especially if OP were to imply the massive, throbbing high definition photo was also actually gore.

  • Probably nothing immediately. The biggest advantages of rescheduling are in regard to federal sentencing guidelines and, imo more importantly, federal funding for research. Schedule 1 drugs (which MJ is currently) are defined as having no medical value, so research funding is practically impossible.

  • I think some of this is also just that pop science often lags years or decades behind real science. Most people couldn't name another famous psychologist, or an evolutionary scientist beyond Darwin, or a physicist beyond Einstein.

Specifically regarding art and philosophy, even if Freud's idea were wrong, you can still glean something useful (or at least interesting) from using them as a starting premise.

  • I mean, he could tweet about how people should show up anyway. I don't know if it would be effective or not, but knowing how rabid his fans are, it could lead to something. This is just more of his plausible deniablitity shtick. "Oh, a juror I don't like very much lives here. It sure would be a shame if a bunch of folks harassed or threatened them into doing what I want"

Dude lost 4 years ago and still has a fanatical base that swears it didn't happen.

  • Slotin knew he fucked up as soon as it happened too. Apparently, he would always use a screwdriver to hold the thing open and was warned multiple times he was gonna kill himself. He did use himself as a human shield, though (not sure if it was deliberate or just happenstance), and ended up being the only fatality in that incident, iirc.

  • We're seeing it now. I don't know how old you are, I'm assuming you are in your teens or early 20s? Even 5 years ago, what we're seeing on college campuses now would have been, literally, unimaginable. Especially in the face of such harsh crackdown. I was in the US military when DOMA was repealed in 2013. The questions people asked felt legitimate at the time, but in retrospect, they all sound like arguments from 75 years ago. People were concerned about LGB couples in base housing, getting benefits, etc. At one point, the General giving us the briefing last his patience and just yelled at the old guys hounding on those questions that they could quit being bigoted or leave the service. I left the TQ+ off intentionally because those people weren't even an afterthought at that point in time. We've got legal medical and recreational marijuana in about 1/2 the country and even got some cities experimenting with UBI. I cannot stress how absolutely wild the idea of any level of American government just giving people money...no strings attached is to people who grew up hearing about welfare queens and worries people were buying the wrong foods with their food stamps.

Solidarity is the path. Unionize, vote in numbers large enough to overwhelm, then dismantle gerrymandering. Tell the stories of the disadvantaged and underprivileged to as many people as you can. Get involved in politics at the local level...not just every 4 years. Support RCV, welcome mid- and high- density housing in your neighborhood. Use whatever privileges you have under this system to be the voice for those without said privileges.

It's a big world, it won't change overnight...and if it did, it's unlikely that change would last. Even if it changed over 20 years, it might not last unless we take the time to convince a majority of the people that those changes are worth protecting.

It's hard work, and it's frustratingly slow at times. Burning down the house easy, building it isn't.

  • Anything?!?!? Like, changing the world without killing millions of the most vulnerable among us?

And yes, millions are dying now anyway, but that won't stop if just start killing more people faster.

Russia are the bad guys because they invaded another country. That is unacceptable violence. Ukraine are the good guys because they're defending themselves. That is acceptable violence. If Ukraine had preemptively attacked Russia, they wouldn't be the good guys. Hamas are the bad guys because they targeted civilians. If they had only attacked military targets, I don't think things in Gaza would have gone so bad so fast. The Israeli government and military are also the bad guys, and in fact they probably think they're doing exactly what you're advocating for. Kill the bad guys before they do anything bad to make the world better/safer for everyone else. That's the problem when your only solution is killing.

You seem to arguing that the only solution to 1/2 the world being cruel is for the other 1/2 to be cruel, too...we can't end suffering by inflicting suffering...even if went perfectly we'd still have a world where 1/2 the people were cruel, it'd just be a different 1/2.
