Everyone talking about taxes is neglecting the main reason you don't ship something you were trying to sell locally: scammers.
We can gather that the seller never intended to ship the item, so they were contacted by someone who isn't from the area. That's like the first hint that a scammer is the one contacting you; it always needs to be shipped, it's a "gift", they don't try to negotiate the price at all, etc.
I'm sure some people make legitimate deals this way, but nowadays the online market is just saturated with scammers trying dupe sellers into paying bogus fees for fraudulent payment services.
Probably how we went to the moon and then later successfully sent a rover to Mars to study and take pictures. It's something I can't really explain on a technical level but it happened
tldr; a short summary about the demise of John Franklin's 1845 Arctic expedition. Many of the tinned rations were poorly sealed and contaminated with lead, leading to sickness, starvation and general tragedy for all involved. (If you think that sounds interesting there's a 10-episode AMC dramatization called The Terror, which is how I learned about it)
What if, and this is a big if, but what if they ran on policies most people actually wanted?
I know it sounds crazy, but they could actually maintain power by just giving voters what they ask for instead of doing everything possible to serve corporate and religious institutions.
I had way more fun drinking when I was a minor than as an adult. It's not even about it being "taboo" but just not being as enjoyable to me anymore; now that weed is legal in my state I'll smoke weekly but only drink maybe 5-10 times a year. I had a couple drinks (for the first time in ~3 months) at a BBQ this past weekend and it didn't have any positive impact on my evening.
I rarely go to bars anymore but when I do I'll have 1-2 beers and buy a food item to go with each one. It's wild to remember I used to have like 6-10 drinks during a night out and eat nothing until I got back home and made a sloppy quesadilla or something.
Not really a tech person, most of my jobs have been in customer service or warehouse/manufacturing work. I mainly switched to lemmy because the 3pa change helped me realize I've been so tired of all the ads and bs reddit keeps pushing; it's pretty much garbage compared to the site it used to be 10+ years ago when I found it.
I do appreciate how much tech gets discussed here though. It's interesting to see things talked about that I wouldn't normally be exposed to, so I do learn a bit from time to time.
Humans can, in fact, create art without having seen others do it first. (e.g.: cave paintings from several millennia ago)
I don't understand why anyone would assume humans only have the same creative capabilities as a computer when we have free will and all that good stuff that comes with being a conscious, intelligent living being.
