  • Let's be fair. Elon could be killing a man, on camera, and shout a confession afterwards and you would still find excuses for his behaviour and tell us we're just misinterpreting facts...

  • AI consumption of news content makes the news more accessible.

If journalists and their platforms do not get paid their articles won't get written. So no, the free absorbtion of professional articles into a LLM that uses the article to answer a Pokemon question online in 6 months is not making "news" more "accesible".

  • I sense a new dictionary definition of self-fulfilling prophecy coming up....

  • But that's like saying the engineers at Apple did all the work. But it would not have grabbed the zeitgeist without Jobs. And as much as I despise Musk you do need to give him credit for how he marketed Tesla and SpaceX. As the now is showing he was just making stuff up and lucked into some good decisions, but the accomplishment stands.

  • Uber was never a tech proposition, it was a predatory disruptor.

The streaming fiasco is sad but inevitable as greed does what greed does.

Cloud was never primarily about price, the big cost save initially was to get rid of purchased or rented iron and locations but the main reason of the Big Switch was the scaleability and opportunities for quick deployment of new technologies and methodologies.

  • went insane

Come on, read his statements and actions of the past, say, 5 years. The sanity ship sailed ages ago.

  • Whoever still uses twitter deserves all they get from it...

  • 100 years from now? All technology will be wearable or implanted, screens won't exist anymore for personal devices but data will be either projected or beamed directly. Woeln't be at all surprised if by then it's largely organic and implanted at birth.

  • We have come to fundamentally different insight into the psyches of the rich and the ultra rich. There's a reason I say that for me they might as well be adiiferent species, we'll see in the fullness of time how this develops. Both the system and the individual in it can be problem. Glossing over an, in my mind, fundamental difference is a mistake. But that's my opinion of course. It's clear you do not get my argument and that's that.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this subject. Fact is that the world is in serious peril, and the foundations of our system are shaking at its core.

  • Nothing you do for the next 10 years will really matter so just try to have fun and enjoy being young and without responsibilities.

  • Oh, it was bad already. But what most people do not realize how far removed from the "real" world that you, me and yes-millionaires inhabit the multibillionaires are. The "out of touch" elite of the old rich and powerful did exist in the same framework we did. The megarich do not. The difference between indirect influence and direct power might seem trivial but I am convinced it's not just fundamentally different but also potentially catastrophic as they might as well be a different species from us for all practical purposes and to have them make decisions that directly influence our lifes but not theirs is Kafkaesque.

  • You are correct in essence, I was taking a bit of a shortcut, but Rishi is definately unique in that he is a step up in wealth compared to the traditional Old Boys Network. Ironically that's the only level up the UK has accomplished since Boris XD

So yes, the rich and privileged have always been the ruling class, once the Millionaires get replaced by Billionaires the rules, and playing field, changes dramatically.

  • No, it got significantly worse for two reasons:

Trump showed that operating outside morals or regulations had no consequences, political or financial.

A kleptrocrat is now in the highest office, instead of just pulling strings.

  • To be fair, reddit for me was always about getting to know like-minded people. And I met my wife through the 40+redditor seeks redditor group so if that's what it is I'm fine with it. Not in the least as I left that toxic waste dump with the exodus and have not missed 95% of it. (Yes, I miss /r/AskHistorians but I am strong, if I allow myself one subredit it will suck me back in so clean break is for the best).

  • Legend(2015) has an audience score of 59% for some bizarre reason. I'd think anyone that was onboard for the permise enough to watch it in the first place would enjoy it a lot. I know I did, great movie.

  • I agree, not earthshattering but enjoyable, better than Hypercube and deserving of more love.

  • Stupidity or ignorance of the law does not make you innocent. Great though the guy was for running a tor node, he did not realize what liability he set himself up for. Unfortunate and I feel for the guy, but he was technically guilty and that's all that matters in the court of law.

  • Treat others how you would like to be treated. Adress others the way you want to be adressed.
