  • The 'raw' video that included things that very well could have been a bomb shelter for the hospital.
'Why would a hospital have a bomb shelter?' Asks a country that has been bombing another country into oblivion for 20 years.
'Oh look! This motorcycle has a bullet hole! It must have been used by terrorists!' says a country who's military has been shooting people indiscriminately for 70years.

  • Humans are surprisingly good at echolocation.
For example, with your eyes closed, hold your arm out with your palm facing your face and make a droning noise while bringing your palm towards your face.
Now try making a 'click' noise while facing inches away from a wall. Now try the 'click' in a hallway.
There's a blind guy named Daniel Kish who rides a bike using echolocation. He teaches this stuff to people through an organization called world access for the blind.
I would also like to hear like a bat.

  • Lots of labs don't need the highest end equipment, and the ones that do could sell the old ones.
That would work if we didn't have everything set up to throw out, which is a different problem all together. I've worked in IT procurement for a fairly big corporation, and I've seen dumpsters filled with slightly old iPhones because it made more sense to accounting.

  • My only pushback is that she used her fame to help indigenous people her entire career. If it was from a point of dishonesty, (could have been some type of delusion) she still tried to make the world better. It's not a Jordan Peterson or Steven Seagal situation where they try to get legitimacy by association and only give lip service.

But ultimately, this isn't an issue where my opinion matters much. I don't have indigenous lived experience beyond close association.

  • I 100% would. It's short term loss for long term gain.
Which microscope are you going to buy? The one with the software that's company supported through it's amortization period and then community supported afterwards, or the one where you're sol after it's paid off?

  • This was an incredibly irresponsible story to 'break'.
Who takes a look at Buffy and thinks that's the story I want to break? Whether she is or isn't doesn't matter in the scheme of things. No matter what, Buffy's been outspoken and a good representative for indigenous people her entire career.
Why would anyone think that they're making the world a better place by 'breaking' this story.
The three reporters that wrote the original story should be fired. Same with the editor.
I'm ashamed of the CBC. How can they do this and not cover any actual story in Canada.

  • My not well informed opinion is that the carbon tax won't fight climate change. It'll just make living in Canada more expensive.
All of our major political parties are neoliberal in ideology. The conversation is never about how to actually tackle carbon emissions. It's about how much they'd fund a specific solution. (The conservatives sometimes buck this trend, but they don't put forward solutions that can actually have an impact.)

  • I homeschooled for a few years in an area without school shootings (not the USA). It was weird for me because I don't think kids belong in factories and want/ed to get my kids real critical thinking and media literacy.

I'm apparently a gigantic weirdo and struggled to hold conversations with other homeschooling parents because they were most definitely not interested in helping their kids have independent thought.
