Can you mention what your specs are and whatnot? I've been getting abrupt random crashes over and over from it, and literally exclusively from it from what I can tell.

EDIT: Figured it out. You need to run the game on DirectX 11 instead of 12 for certain cards. Insert " %command% --use-d3d11 " into the game's launch options in steam. Game runs great now.

When we're talking about setting someone up with a OS & DE that 'just works', all of those are extremely relevant - some of the most relevant aspects to start off, I'd argue.

I think it deals with familiarity defining personal aesthetic? You grow up within a space, and the trends of that space become the norm, and within that norm there's a sweet spot that's 'cool'.

Every generation that grows up in a dramatically different aesthetic space thus ends up with completely different aesthetics from one another.

That is some fair criticisms mixed with some things that are unfortunately not tackleable by linux devs. Arch is more a toy for configuring IMO; you lose alot of productivity up front getting it set up. I can't really speak for Wayland.

I've also been a fan of using Voicemeeter Banana, since it allowed me to output to both my speakers and headphones simultaneously, but only binding the audio control buttons to my headphones. Currently nothing like that functionally exists on linux that I've been able to find yet.

Nvidia has historically dragged its feet when providing support for its GPUs, and I definitely noticed alot of issues when running an Nvidia GPU back in the day, though I can't speak for how much of that is explicitly Nvidia and how much that's linux Dev lag.

Discord is even worse. It was news to me when switching back this year, but Discord has altogether stopped maintaining audio for game streaming. It's closed source, though, so there's nothing that can really be done about it. Overall, a not insignificant blow for gaming on linux.

I still get bad vibes from PopOS and have steered clear of it because of it. I would recommend you try Linux Mint at some point, since I've had a good experience with it and I regularly see others who equally recommend it.

Do you mind mentioning the others you've tried and what snags you hit?

I've worked with Arch, Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and SteamOS, and I would say that while arch and Ubuntu can have a learning curve, Linux Mint is on par with SteamOS in usability.

I did a similar thing on linux mint while trying to get my audio system working how I wanted. Luckily it comes with terminal-accessible rollback by default via timeshift and I was able to revert the mistake.

Linux's modularity and customizability vectors for complications which Windows lacks, which is both an advantage and an issue. I prefer having it over not, though.

I read Dune years ago now and have only seen part 1. I may misremember the book some and that may be affecting my personal feelings of it but I'll give my input nonetheless.

Pretty much, I feel Villeneuve and his team have done the most faithful depiction of the first part of the book to date, in terms of matching mood and description of the spaces, as well as the behaviors exhibited by characters. the scenes that really drove this home for me were the hunter seeker in Paul's chamber and Jessica's interaction with Shadout Mapes. Unfortunately much of the relevant exposition which explains the details of the situation are missing, since they're internal monologues of Paul and Jessica.

I can't blame Chalamet for his acting here. Paul shows Jack shit in the books and you mostly get what he's thinking and feeling, once again, from his thoughts. In this case, Chalamet is being pretty faithful to Paul's demeanor in the books - whether he means to or not. I do remember him being alittle more expressive in the second part of the book, so it'll be interesting for me to see if that comes across in part 2.

Populism is simply a political strategy where you appeal to the 'common voter.' It is neither good nor bad.

Pro-Union efforts are populist. So are most socialist movements.

Stating a movement is populist is an in-the-moment observation. I would argue that trying to sort 'true populists' who are actually trying to help their supporter base from 'faux-populists' fundamentally misuses the term, which is simply noting who the politician is trying to appeal to.

That timeline of dealing with the bad looks incredibly optimistic. I imagine new issues will likely be regularly cropping up as well which we'll also have to address.

I think the per-person metric is a poor metric when talking about damaging consumption.

Yes, we can all lower our standards of living in developed countries and also transition to more communal transport and utility systems (you can do this right now, within your means and comfort), but a very large portion (a majority I think, in fact) of the human race have standards of living that arguably are so low that they should be raised.

This metric also completely misses the exponentially higher amount of devastation caused directly from mass production consumerist capitalism. Shifting to economic systems which make only what is reasonable while also not denying those in need would likely be the biggest move towards sustainability.
