  • Not attacking you specifically, just sounding off for the bOtH pArTiEs ArE tHe SaMe peeps - they are close, and you're right they have been my entire life, but there is a sane(r) choice.

As for your observation about local elections, I currently live in Wisconsin. Trust me, I get it.

  • Dems tend to be easier to sway and/or embarrass into doing the right thing. They don't have a struct plan, message, or even the party cohesion that the GOP has, so progressives need to do that for them.

It's not enough to vote in a presidential election. Vote in every local election. Get progressives on school boards, elect progressive county execs, get progressives stuffed into every corner of local politics, because that's where we brew future state & national candidates.

By the time we get to the presidency these days, we only have two options: radical right-wingers and centre-right. We need to have local and state reps who can pull out options farther left.

That is going to take a long time and a lot of concentration, effort, and participation from a lot of people. Presidentially, right now, we need to put out the engine fire before we can start repairing the car and actually get somewhere. If that means holding our nose when we vote for a lesser evil, that's what we do. But then we have to keep our eyes on the goal.

  • How techy are you? I was eyeing up

and may give it a shot in the new year.

Edit: odd Boost doesn't show my linked text. Just in case - https://deckhd.com/

  • "I have yet to meet a single person from my culture who is LGBTQ+, so they must not exist. It can't possibly be that my culture has violently sigmatised their existence to the point that they don't feel safe coming out."

"This study can't definitively prove that sexual orientation has a genetic element, so it must not have any genetic component at all."

  • Well I will agree that one of us does not have a grasp on logical fallacies.

People do not NEED to know the textbook definition of an assault rifle to know that a weapon designed for maximum carnage should be regulated. You also don't NEED to hear an accurate reference to a specific weapon to understand their argument. You know what they mean.

By outright dismissing them because they haven't defined a term to your satisfaction, you are not engaging in good faith.

If you really were interested in discussion, you would respond to establish a standard definition and then, based on that definition, provide your counter argument.

  • Dismissing someone's argument over semantics is trivial objection that doesn't engage in the actual argument. You understand perfectly well what the argument is, and that it's addressing a different issue than categories of armament.

Plus, declaring your opponent an "incompetent fool" to dismiss their argument is a bonus ad hominem fallacy.

  • As soon as I see the pedant arguing semantics, their credibility goes right out the window.

  • I watched this Futurama episode back when it aired and was disappointed to see this reference make it to the screen. It wasn't clever and they spent too much time on it. The term "cringe" has managed both to come into and go out of vogue in the intervening years.

  • Looks like I'm the first comment actually interested in this cool giveaway! Thank you kind stranger for sharing your fortune.

Arkham would be the only game I'm interested in, as I do like Batman lore and hear the games are good. I've never played one before, but if my brother can get his hands on the OLED Steam Deck next week he will sell me his old one and I'll finally have a Deck to play games on!

I'm years from playing games (not since the PSP), so if there are any cool Steam games y'all want to recommend I'm all ears!

I don't have time for open world or RPGs, so I prefer puzzle, racing, and more linear story games. Pick-up-and-play stuff. That said, if you're passionate about a game, I'd love to hear about it!

  • Leatherman Juice Pro. I've used it nearly every day for 17 years and have done tonnes of house and auto repair with it. Also a cotton bandanna. Those things come in handy for cleaning, cooling, tying, bagging, you name it.

  • I use an old Note 8 as a music/podcast player because it connects to WiFi and I can download and manage content. No cellular connection.

For serious listening I have an Astell & Kern AK120 that sounds lovely, but the UI leaves me pining for Rockbox. I need to repair my old iPod Classic just to have Rockbox back for my dream machine.

  • Rockbox spoiled me for all other music player UIs.

  • Original joke by Johnny Sun. Highly recommend his book "Everyone's A Aliebn" because it's adorable and kinda heartbreaking.

  • It's at the

    in central Wisconsin.

  • That thing is literally a 30 minute drive from my house. It's actually a really cool sculpture

  • Bite your tongue. Icehouse was amazing.
