  • AuDHD here. I could be entirely off, but there's two jokes I can see.

The first is that the punchline is a non-joke, because it's been removed.

The second is that they're all just as meaningless, but still repeated. Rich and attractive people always try to convince you not to question those structures because it benefits them. It's a nothing statement. Of course they would say that. Just like [Deleted], always saying [Removed].

  • It's my favorite Godzilla movie because of this aspect. There's a scene where I lost it in the theater when the >!Prime Minister is completely certain in telling the press that Godzilla will absolutely never, not in a million years, not make landfall.. only to have an underling whisper in his ear that Godzilla just made landfall.!<

I worked for a Japanese company at the time, and could recognize that it wasn't even heightened for parody. That's just exactly how it is.

  • I understand this sentiment because I had a similar story growing up, but I've had to come to terms that the internet of that era does not exist anymore.

Now we have these corporations who made it their goal to algorithmically trick you into spending more and more time engaged with their website for ad revenue, not caring how angry or misinformed people get in the meantime. It used to be a place we could escape to, but has turned into just another echo chamber/prison and worst of all - we're addicted to it.

I think places like Mastodon and the Fediverse can help bridge this gap, but on the whole, the internet is just not a safe place for developing brains anymore.

  • The thing about cancer is that it will eventually kill itself. It destroys the environment it lives in until it becomes uninhabitable, killing both the host environment and the cancer itself.

So, the cancer is already going to die, it's only a matter of if it takes us with it or not. The ONLY option for survival is to kill it before it kills us. There is no siding with cancer and hoping you won't be affected.

(Capitalism is the cancer, in case mods get nervous)

  • The difference is being labeled "abnormal" by a person you know vs. by society. As a society, we used to beat children who used their left hand to write until they started acting "normal".

The thought itself that left-handedness and right-handedness are different is not harmful. However, when you start labeling one as 'normal' and the other as a 'generic abnormality', you start shifting people's perspectives and suddenly we get a situation where we call left-handed people "Sinister". (The word literally means left-handed. We added the evil connotations afterwards because of the prejudice against left-handed people. We also did the same in reverse for "dexterity".)

You might not see the harm immediately in the small scale, but it's absolutely intended to be a step towards dehumanizing queer people. As others have said as well, homosexuality is incredibly common in nature. Most giraffe sex is gay sex. It's just not taught in school because.. say it with me.. "It's abnormal."

It's really not though. It's just different, and different doesn't mean bad.

  • Your argument has been used countless times in history for a number of "abnormalities" that turn out to just be differences without distinction.

"Listen, I'm a supporter of red-heads, but don't we basically understand that it's a genetic abnormality? Maybe 'illness' is a bit harsh, but they're just not common enough in society to be considered normal."

    • Clearly states problem

This is how it's done. I don't play the game, but I'm interested if this is how their community is moderated.

  • Bob actually tried to milk the insurance companies for money, IIRC. He wasn't entirely a monster, but definitely had no chill.

Dr. Bob Kelso: What the hell people? I saw Maggie Kent in the park. Why didn't we treat her?
Nurse Carla Espinosa: She has no insurance.
Dr. Bob Kelso: Well, why didn't we do what we always do? Why didn't you fix it while I turned my back and pretend not to notice? You know the dance.

  • Their bedtime story to play on repeat while they sleep:

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

(Brave New World for those who don't immediately get the reference.)

  • Same, for now. Although, we have two ICE vehicles and want to swap to electric. I haven't looked, but I can't imagine there's a great selection of electric, but 'dumb' in the US, considering GPS was mandatory for new vehicles in .. 2016, I think?

I've also heard people say you can just pull the fuse for the GPS, but I'm still skeptical.

  • I live in a small, rural community. The county sheriff's department just announced how they bought the GPS tracking data for every vehicle in the county and how it's going to "help calm traffic because they can predict where people are going to be speeding and can have an officer waiting"

The pre-crime department is starting and no one batted an eye.

  • If you think that gender is immutable, you are the one with the misunderstanding around gender. What do you think trans people change when they transition if not their gender?

Gender is a performance. You absolutely can change it or choose not to perform it altogether. Please educate yourself.
