  • I don't know about hyprocritical, but it is rather selfish. Valuing human lives at zero just because you haven't met them is quite extreme if you think about it. I don't see how it is utilitarian either. Saving even 2 people at the cost of 1 is the most utilitarian thing to do.

  • I don't like it any more than anyone else. I believe social media has a negative impact on children and likely all people who use it.

  • Just curious, but what does it mean or imply to be a partnered community in this context?

  • I have no idea what you are on about. Your response is completely baffling to me. 🫤

  • I don't have any expectations. I'm not making a judgement. Just an observation.

  • Kids seem depressingly lethargic these days. They will probably doomscroll tiktok instead of going out with friends.

  • The situation would have to be rather intentional. Like I'm in a room next to a room with the other people and the fact that my death saves them is an absolute beyond questioning. Ideally I'd also be able to see them.

In that situation probably just 2.

I don't think this can be extrapolated to any possible real world scenario.

  • I'd be worried about breaking compatibility across the lemmyverse. The thing that makes the Lemmy a federated system is that they are all instances of the same thing. Also the main contributors are going to be the most knowledgeable on the subject which is why their opinions would be important. They are also the owners of the repository. It's not a democracy just because it is open source.

It is still an option though if the original project starts doing things that cross some line. The example given doesn't seem even close to crossing that line. I don't see how this person thinks this decision by them is unreasonable. Do they believe that their change should be the default behavior of the default UI of Lemmy and that this is the majority opinion on the matter? Seems unlikely to me.

  • I wonder if they will use the memory restoration thing on Dusk to find out something wild about Demerzel. A couple episodes ago they went into the memory database and realized that the original Cleon had vastly more memories at the end of his life than the rest of the Dusks. I'm not sure if they explained it, but does every knew Empire absorb the knowledge of the previous or do they re-learn all of that knowledge every time they are born? At any rate some kind of memory suppression or knowledge suppression thing must be going on in their brains. They likely have some kind of built-in brainwashing that lets Demerzel control their decisions when need be.

  • It is fine that it is subjective, but this is why reviews from a major corporation don't make any sense. You want reviews from a large number of individuals so that you can get to know some of their taste to see if it is similar to your own. Then you can make a decent guess if you will also find the thing fun.

Not to mention these major review sites rate on a 7-10 scale which is kind of worthless. They are also effectively bribed by game studios so it is actually worse than worthless. It is actively harmful to finding out the truth.

  • I've been using an mp3 style walkman for awhile. There's something about dedicated single purpose electronics that is so comfy. They also just work as the software is always barebones simple.

  • It might be the worst type of train station, but at least it is a train station. As opposed to there not being one. I'd love any kind of trains near me.

Edit: I love the use of Cities Skylines in the video. I am excited for the sequel to come out this year.

  • Profitting from free user generated content is uncool. 👍

  • Is this even a good format to archive information? I'd prefer any information worth saving to be written into some kind of formal documentation.

  • For me I have every news and politics community blocked. I'm not sure how other people use this site, but I thought of all the things I'm interested in seeing and sought out those communities with the communities search and then subscribed to them. Sometimes I'll check the other filters if I happen to run out of things to read.

  • Carefully curating a subscription list and sticking to the subscriptions filter has worked well for me.

  • She could have used that $12k as part of a down payment on her own place.. what on earth is she thinking.

  • Oh curious. I don't understand the use-case or how it fits in with the concept of PixelFed so I think I won't use it. I'd like to see PixelFed get more popular, but if most of the posts are disappearing after 24 hours then it's kind of like nobody is even using it. 🤨

  • Do you have an example where using keywords in quotes doesn't work on Google? I think if the top results don't contain both keywords then it doesn't exist in its index.
