I tried doing it in phtn.app and it worked properly.

Commenting for people in the future, Typescript can be used in the backend (and is actually pretty popular there for some reason).

Why did beehaw lock itself down?

The thumbnails are generated indivdually by each instance.

I just compressed all my images, thinking lemm.ee would outlive all the image hosts.

I sorted by top of all time on my profile, uploaded the images to another site, and hotlinked them in the post.

For any people in the future.

Not most, they do keep tiny thumbnails though.

Servers can:

• Proxy images
• Save them locally
• just link to them.

Most do the latter as its cheaper.

Mastodon purges them after a while though.

I'm editing some of my posts to use those.

Not really, it means I can't send every lemmy instance csam.

I think you should keep your money for now.

Lemmy's benefit is decentralisation. If you go to lemmy.zip, most of the old content is there. We don't lose everything with this shutdown.
