It sounds like the switch is doing some type of management or traffic shaping that is breaking your internet connection. I know you said if it works out of the box as a dumb switch with no configuration but it seems obvious that it is doing something. Wi-Fi would bypass the switch unless you have a wireless access point plugged into the switch. My understanding is that Private Relay is basically Tor but through Cloudflare and other providers that Apple uses so it might be a good idea to Google Tor internet issues with a managed switch and see if anything there is applicable.
I’d also check through the settings of the switch and disable any settings you can that impact traffic flow in any way. If you have an actual dumb, unmanaged switch you can switch in, I’d try that too. Even if you have to buy one, they’re fairly cheap and can be a good tool to have in your back pocket to troubleshoot network issues.
The rumors have been for a while that he uses Adderall or some other similar drug to keep himself going. It's Junior who everyone thinks has the coke habit.
Wallet and phone in the right pocket, keys in the left for me.
Considering how much it costs, that sucks. You might be able to replace the launcher, I did that with the built in Google TV interface on my Sony TV for a while. The only problem is that it wasn't reliable and somehow ran slower, even though it had no ads.
The Apple TV has ads in the TV app, but I never use it since so many services don't integrate with it. I also just don't find the concept that useful. I don't need all my services available in one app. I'm fine with just having a grid of apps I jump between.
I don’t see Elon selling Twitter. He’s too far in. He paid $44bn for it, by most estimates it’s probably worth half that today (both due to lower traffic and Elon seriously overpaying from the start). So if he sells, best case scenario he takes a 50% haircut. Crazy or not he has a plan for the thing, so he’s gonna do his plan and if it works he’ll make a bundle and if not then it’ll shrink a lot. But I see him hanging on to it with a skeleton crew before he sells it.
I don't think he'll sell willingly. I just could see a scenario where his creditors who paid for a large part of it demand to see some return on investment and force him too.
Well yeah, that’s what I meant. The costs of having someone scrape the database are essentially zero for Twitter/Reddit. The lost opportunity cost however is astronomical. Reddit and Twitter both are sitting on an incredibly valuable database of genuine interactions. And I understand not wanting to give that away for free. Problem is, it’s too late. Reddit and Twitter have both been scraped already. So locking barn door after horse has left just pisses off the users.
Agreed. The fact that especially Reddit, but a lesser extent Twitter have been unable to monetize genuine human posts and all the data that gives (Reddit is basically the only way to make Google useful nowadays and Twitter is basically the only place to go for breaking news) seems negligent to me.
But like you said, the horse it out of the barn. There's no getting back that lost potential value.
Batteries are weird. Once they get into the 80s when it comes to maximum battery health/capacity they need to be replaced.
I had an older iPhone 8 battery replaced at a battery shop near me before I sold it and it allowed me to ask for another price. I’ve got an “older” iPhone 12 that I gave to my mom and I’m planning on passing it down to my little brother this year but before I do I’ll probably have the battery replaced. But this time I’ll have Apple do it. It’s possible to do it myself but the price to effort ratio isn’t there, especially since I care about keeping the water resistance.
The Apple TV’s only real competition is the nVidia Shield which is actually more expensive.
Unfortunately the majority of these devices are subsidized by ads and data gathering and most people care more about price than experience.
No it’s not. Twitter is alive and well.
It's alive and if it dies, its death won't be for technical reasons. It will be enough advertisers abandoning it for his creditors to force him to get something from it and sell it. But so far it is hanging in there.
To be clear- I disagree with a lot of what Elon’s doing at Twitter. I understand he wants to monetize AI scraping, but I also think that if he wants Twitter to be the ‘public square’ it has to stay, you know, public. As in no registration required, Google can index.
This AI scraping excuse sites like Twitter and Reddit are using is so disingenuous. This scraping isn't new and hasn't increased to the level where it is costing them anything. It's just it now has hype and a price tag around it so they want their cut.
I think he literally fired the PR department at Twitter, and all emails from press are auto-replied to with a poop emoji. The man is such an unfunny child.
It depends on what you're looking for. For me, Twitter is basically an RSS feed of news and people I want to hear from. It's not a social media network for me. That's why all I want is a reverse chronological feed.
Not really. TVs are subsidized by ads and data collection, so they all have this crap. The more reputable brands do have better UX and may let you opt out of some of it, but not all.
My recommendation is to buy the TV with the best hardware features that you want. Once you get it, connect it once via Ethernet and update it to get all the most up to date features and fixes. Then disconnect it from Ethernet and connect a smart TV box like Apple TV or the nVidia Shield and use that.
Your experience will be better, the UI will be simpler, and you don't have to worry about all the ads and spyware.
This is being done by Studio Wit right? The screenshots I’ve seen of Harley make it seem like Trigger is doing it. She looks so weirdly close to Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners that it makes my brain skip.
I have decently high expectations. DC has done well with their animated stuff for decades. I don’t have any reason to not trust them with this.
