Is Cosby redeemed because a judge through out his conviction?

This asks a question that I think is valid, but is fraught with emotion and history. Should it not mean that Cosby is redeemed if the charges are thrown out? It is extremely difficult to prove cases from decades ago, but does that mean that someone should face social consequences for charges that haven't been proven in a court of law? Statistics say that most sexual assaults go unreported. Which is why there is a good and understandable push to believe people who report. But experiencing consequences based only on those reports also doesn't seem to be the best.

Did people actually change what they’d say based on whether or not they thought they’d get upvotes?

I'd argue anyone who did that probably had nothing interesting to say and/or didn't actually care about what they were saying. Same with the people who complained about downvotes.

Your big points are true. Fury probably didn’t kill Rhodey then because he knew the Secret Service would immediately shoot him making the reveal pointless but it doesn’t help the fact that it is contrived. Especially since Rhodey was acting sus as hell the whole time anyway. And I guess you could also argue Fury was given the latitude he was because he’s THE spymaster who brought together the team that saved the world on multiple occasions and the universe once but the idea that the US government would let him stay outside the president’s room with a gun is hard to swallow.

And the suit up sequence had me thinking the exact same thing. I was expecting those different compartments to maybe have the different Avengers’ DNA, but nope just clothes and a gun. That did get a snort from me.

And there’s more. Like how Varra and Giah managed to fight off a Skrull hit squad despite being caught off guard and not being combatants in the first place, like how the assault team weren’t Super Skrulls and even like Sonya being caught off guard by Rhodey being a Skrull didn’t make any sense.

But the episode was still good to me. Maybe I’m just more willing to suspend disbelief. The whole premise of a Skrull invasion requires it, as does Fury not calling in even the regular Avengers like Captain America.

What I want from Marvel more than anything is a series similar in tone to this one, but one that goes more in-depth on the world. Make these things make sense, explain how the non-super powered world operates in a universe where aliens, monsters and gods exist and it wouldn’t be so jarring.

But then again, this is the series that has contradicted its own rules of time travel multiple times and even set up character growth arcs in one movie like Thor Ragnarok just to undo them in Infinity War and then Thor Love and Thunder.

For a while I would like a few posts and reply to the usual handful of birthday wishes but I stopped doing that. I’ll just hit up my friends and family directly.

I have essentially stopped using it for the last few years. Last time I used it was months ago and that was for Facebook Marketplace.

I’ve heard this before about a billion things, it’s not a particularly useful take.

It wasn't really intended to be, as that is a larger conversation. But I didn't mean it the way I suspect you thought I did, in a boomer "tight pants and rock music are all of society's ills" way.

My take on it is that ever since corporations got away with prioritizing shareholder profits over everything else, the safety nets that kept families strong started to crumble. Parents had to work more hours, people were more stressed, neighborhoods became more distant, urban spread increased. Add that to hysteria over crime and we get parents that aren't able to raise kids and think schools can do it. No sense of community responsibility and no safety net of a village helping to raise the kids because everyone's at work and scared that someone's going to shoot or kidnap them. So you get generational radicalization with acting out behavior getting worse and worse.

Social media makes all this worse because it optimizes for engagement, and nothing gets engagement like misery and jealousy all while giving an illusion of actual socialization. COVID was gas added to this fire that has been burning for decades.

Break the problems down into their pieces and attack those things; IMO, like solving any big problem, that’s how we get through this.

I definitely agree there. Which is a challenge in and of itself. Like I said, this is a multi-pronged issue. It didn't get to where it is quickly and it won't get fixed quickly either. It will be a generational effort. And I don't think all the fix actions needed are agreed on or even known.

I think part of it will be strengthening neighborhoods and creating a sense of community and pride in it. Another part is allowing parents to actually parent and giving them the tools that their parents didn't pass on to them because they probably didn't have them either.

It's a large conversation to have.

I'm pretty unfamilar with Discord, was after my time. But for the little I do know, I think you're probably right. MFA might be a different kind of community where smaller more real time chats like Discord can work, but for the majority it doesn't seem like it would be a good forum/reddit replacement.

And ironically enough I just saw a story where Reddit followed through on its threats to remove the mods. So they removed them all and the sub is back open, but locked so no one can post.

It's fine enough to disagree with the protests over 3rd party apps. And at the end of the day it is such a small issue. But if you're going to do something, be about it.

They did list one specific example of text wrapping which is apparently a two step process on Photoshop and twenty steps in GIMP. Probably an exaggeration, but the sentiment seems to be that it isn't just different, its worse.

Dealing with differences is fine, but things that are more difficult or require more steps is a problem that should hopefully be fixed.

Not sure how that matters. Teachers and other staff could have phones true, but what if a shooting happens in the bathroom? Or in the halls where there are no teachers? Or the teacher is killed first and all the kid's phones are locked up somewhere?

But to be clear, I don't think that means kids should be using them during class. I can't remember where I saw this, but putting boxes on each desk where kids can put their phones that stay there until after class or an emergency is an option. Or just tell them to keep them in their pockets and discipline them if they use them during class.

Social media impacting mental health is definitely happening, but its a symptom of a larger problem. And COVID definitely accelerated it. But this is a problem that has been going on for decades IMO. American society is crumbling and fixing it will be a multi-prong, multi-decade, probably multi-trillion dollar effort.

Didn't /r/malefashionadvice explicitly close the subreddit and recommend everyone go to their Discord? I can't check it now since I'm at work, but if I remember right, it is still closed with the mods saying they expect to be removed at any point.

I just don't see a way to top the build up and ending to Endgame. A decade of movies with great actors, fun action all leading up to the huge gut punch of Infinity War and the absolute spectacle of Endgame.

After you reach that high, building up again from step one is extremely difficult. And the movies just aren't of the same quality. Besides a few good movies like No Way Home and Black Panther 2 and a few shows with strong starts or premises like Wandavision and Loki, they've all been very mid.

I've honestly been enjoying Secret Invasion so far. The plot has some issues, but not enough to pull me out of the enjoyment. I'd call it probably my third or fourth favorite Marvel D+ show so far.

I’ll have to double check. I did the latest MacBook Air and the latest gen Intel and AMD for the Framework. Upped the CPU and battery on the Framework to keep it competitive with the Mac’s battery life and it came out to $1450.

I also kept them to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Fixed typos. And now I want a 1TB battery.

Not by as much as I thought it would be honestly. About 20%.

The day I moved to my current place and had the choice of fiber or cable, I felt so free. It’s so nice to have real competition.
