  • I think we are talking past eachother here. We can talk a lot about what an illegal order is; how there is training to disobey one, but that is talking about how things ought to be not how they actually are. For example, we all have agreed to not speed and taken training on it as well, yet it happens all too often. It is not unreasonable to believe that a soldier will follow an illegal order because they want to or there is enough coercion.

  • WhatsApp doesn't really have as much of the baggage that the rest of Meta does, but it is still their product, so I would move if possible. Signal is another good app to get people on. At least if there is a "core" team that is sourcing and redistributing info around should be made aware of privacy and anonymity, so that the network does not get decapitated so to speak.

The Hated One is a good youtube channel with resources around protesting. The guy is a bit of a paranoid, but his points still stand. He has some vids on how to make a burner phone. Some mesh network apps, and some info about removing metadata on digital files that might get shared around.

As we get serious about protesting we need to be serious about our digital and physical security. We don't want to use pages that can be taken down, nor do we want to give information that will allow ICE to take down our resistance networks in detail.

  • Possibly does. On occasion I read about German cities trying to do similar, but then reverting back to M$.

Most of the issues are around people not wanting to take time to get use to new software (happened at a job where they moved to GSuite) or the FOSS stuff not having a corporation that can be sued for loss of earnings (like crowd strike when they didn't read only friday). Note that these are not technical issues with FOSS.

Still there is political support to not just use this as an angle to get M$ to lower their pricing.

  • This is also a big thing. If I may add to it, the environment may also help add maturity needed for certain topics. My HS had a banking and personal finance class. Many kids just didn't care, others didn't have any way to visualize it as they didn't really get an allowance, and those with jobs who would benefit the most were often not taking the class because they needed to work.

I was lucky to be there. Really that I was able to credit by exam some classes; which gave me space in my junior and senior year to fill.

  • My take is that they grew up religious and take conservative things being correct as an axiom. Its why some parts of conservative movement's are considered Christian, even if they or the followers are not that religious.

  • Be sure to let them know about privacy services. Don't want them to be tracked doing the lords work.

  • I mean yeah, all those topics are covered in HS civics class….. Which they skipped.

  • Marketing problem. Call it no maintenance.

  • Whoa thanks for that nugget of knowledge. Sounds like something I was searching but didn't run into.

  • The feddieverse is still a small place, so PSA @BrainInABox@lemmy.ml is really just here to troll some both sides stuff. If you try to have some dialog where you ask what their alternative is they will just never answer. They are just here to troll and grand stand about how much they care, but not enough to do something material for the cause.

  • Good luck with have positive results/speedy recovery.

  • I did try that, but the mobile app is more strict about an ssl cert and I am only doing local stuff right now. Tho I am planing to hook my server to a domain eventually.

  • :) its good to engage with the community
