  • But that would require caring enough to put the effort into deleting the account.

I'd rather just leave my account unused and taking up space. Then I don't have to visit the site.

  • Considering any new electric cars you buy would have to be made from materials mined and processed, manufactured into a vehicle and then shipped long distances before it even gets to you, keeping your existing car and maintaining it well is possibly better for the environment when the entire life cycle is considered.

  • There's only so much you can say in a chant. Not a lot of room for nuance...

  • I thought molten salt storage gets like 90% efficiency. What's the advantage of storing energy by cooling blocks?

  • What's the advantage of that solution over existing solutions like heating molten salts?

  • If they don't have a good internet connection available for free for customers with a good mobile website, why would anyone visit and actually struggle through the ordering process?

  • In a society with an ageing population mobility assistance is a growing market.

  • Another commenter summarized the nature article linked in comments... Yes, the salt is left in the pipes, so they are flushed out at night to prevent buildup.

  • You misunderstood, my sub is private and the only member is me. This enables some 3rd party apps to still work. I still use a 3rd party app to visit Reddit.

I am not going to install the official app.

  • I'm still quietly using a 3rd party app for my limited Reddit visits as I am a moderator for a sub with no content.

  • Which article? Was there meant to be a link?

Also, and I must say I haven't kept updated on the topic, I thought the idea of a carbon tax is to tax the emitters of greenhouse gases? Tax the companies responsible for most of the emissions. If they can't find a cheap way to do it they will increase prices of their products and lose out to competitors who can cheaply limit emissions?

  • I sometimes like to subscribe to the YT channel of some creators for a few months. Get some bonus content and no ads (if no ad blocker).

  • AFAIK the changing thumbnails are not made by YouTube. The creator uploads a number of options for thumbnails and video titles, then YouTube randomly? shows those options to users and provides statistics to the creator so they can apply the best performing (in terms of click through and watch time) option to improve video performance. It's all of course linked to how the algorithm works, so is indirectly influenced by YouTube.

Source: a video I watched a while ago but I don't even remember who made the video, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

  • Until earlier this year I just watched the ads because in some small way it supports creators and I could deal with it. Then they increased the number of ads per watch-time to egregious levels.

I certainly wasn't going to reward a company for making the existing service worse by subscribing. Started using the apps people mention immediately and also setup pihole to block more ads.

  • Isn't that a Windows 11 thing?

  • If they break it into bits, maybe they can allow it to move to the side of the screen!

Then I can move directly from 10 to 12.

  • I use powertoys and have the mouse highlighting tool enable when I shake the cursor back and forth.

Before this tool I also moved it around so I could see it, now it becomes highlighted when I do.

  • I get that. Before ChatGPT if I had a bad partner it is very quickly obvious that their work is bad.

Now you might be tricked into thinking they're competent, which I can imagine is more frustrating because it's unpredictable.

I guess that right now people are overusing it as it's so new, but in the end the people who want to graduate without trying to learn will always try to abuse whatever tools they have to cheat. Usually they face the consequences at some point in their lives.

  • I've had partners like that in the past. If ChatGPT didn't exist they would've found another way to cheat or avoid work.

The type of partner who takes the task you asked them to complete, posts the task description on an online forum and hope someone gives them the answer.
