  • I don't think there's any moment that truly blows your mind. It's a very slow burn. I found every run I learned something new that made me want to revisit old rooms and search out new ones. It definitely helps to take notes which is also fun in its own way.

Sometimes solving a puzzle just gives you some lore but that was also neat too. There's one note I found that stuck with me regarding following traditions. It doesn't have anything to do with the game but it was great writing!

  • why don't they program them

AI models aren't programmed traditionally. They're generated by machine learning. Essentially the model is given test prompts and then given a rating on its answer. The model's calculations will be adjusted so that its answer to the test prompt will be closer to the expected answer. You repeat this a few billion times with a few billion prompts and you will have generated a model that scores very high on all test prompts.

Then someone asks it how many R's are in strawberry and it gets the wrong answer. The only way to fix this is to add that as a test prompt and redo the machine learning process which takes an enormous amount of time and computational power each time it's done, only for people to once again quickly find some kind of prompt it doesn't answer well.

There are already AI models that play chess incredibly well. Using machine learning to solve a complexe problem isn't the issue. It's trying to get one model to be good at absolutely everything.

  • It's the title of the post: Enantiomer an identical chemical structure but mirrored. Think of how your hands are left and right. They're identical in their structure, but are mirrored. Molecules can have the same thing and were denoted by L and D (but now use + and -)

  • Reminds me of the classic Always Be Closing speech from Glengarry Glen Ross

As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anyone want to see second prize? Second prize's a set of steak knives. Third prize is a set of steak knives. Fourth prize is a set of steak knives. Fifth prize is a set of steak knives. Sixth prize is a set of steak knives. Seventh prize is a set of steak knives. Eighth prize is a set of steak knives. Ninth prize is a set of steak knives. Tenth prize is a set of steak knives. Eleventh prize is a set of steak knives. Twelfth prize is a set of steak knives.

  • I work at a factory in Canada. We just got a huge contract from European customers and we've been told we're running more machines on 24/7 shifts to meet demand and hiring 50 new staff to do it. The clients switched from producing in the US to avoid costs associated with the trade war.

  • In computer class I searched "gay porn" on my friends computer when while he was gone. The teacher saw me do it and sent me to the principal's office where I got in trouble for being gay. When I got home my parents were also upset. Apparently the principal called them to tell them I was gay! I was really confused as to why being gay seemed to be the issue and not searching for porn on a school computer and that's how I learned about homophobia!

  • Because these "teacher is dumber than a child" pictures are always fake. I've never seen a teacher write corrections on a student's paper. Are they doing that for every wrong question on every paper? That would take forever!

  • Honestly, good on the judge for throwing out the case even if the guy was breaking the law. The evidence they collected was done so against the rules and the police officers worked together to lie to the court to hide that fact. Just because officers found evidence of actual crimes doesn't make it okay to break the rules.

It was also completely unnecessary. They arrested the guy for impaired driving when they saw he had a gun with an extended mag in the back seat? Why not just arrest him for the gun??

  • The foundation was rebuilt in 1990 to prevent it from collapsing, but it did stand for about 600 years before that! The tower's foundation was originally built on silt but that silt has clay underneath. It's why modern construction does soil analysis first. Or, at least they should.

Things still collapse because soil analysis is skipped, like this bridge in Saskatchewan that collapsed in 2018 on the same day it opened to the public and before anyone actually crossed it.
