  • My father used to really like Poilievre and send me clips of him roasting libs or whatever. That stopped immediately after Poilievre shook hands with the trucker convoy people. My father's a "law and order" kind of guy and that moment completely changed his mind on PP.

  • Much of the economy only works because people believe in it. The UK had an economic crisis in 2022 when Liz Truss, Prime Minister for 50 days, passed a budget so terrible it tanked their stock market.

The budget included enormous tax cuts for the highest tax brackets, resulting in a £60 billion budget deficit, all while there was a cost of living crisis for the UK's poorest. UK stocks plummeted so much over the thought that the Prime Minster had no idea how to manage the economy that it caused "safe" investments, like retirement funds, to start failing. The UK central bank stepped in and said they'd print money in order to keep safe investments liquid which likely stopped the UK from experiencing a great depression. Liz Truss resigned because of the fallout.

It's not an exaggeration to say that Trump hinting that the government might not honour their debts could collapse the economy.

  • Just let the freaking creatives do their job and stop having some committee decide for them.

Reminds me of a joke I heard about Concord.

"Our marketing team was heavily involved in the making of our character designs"
    "I can tell"

  • Can't recommend it enough! I've tried Linux distros in the past but always found that there were hardware issues or certain programs didn't work. Not to mention I essentially had to give up gaming. Linux was cool but I just couldn't use it as my daily driver.

I switched to Pop!_OS last month and I've been blown away. The install was simple and straightforward and the only hardware that required special config was my gaming mouse that needed "libratbag" and "piper" to remap the extra buttons and adjust the RGB.

Other than that, all the programs I normally use like Discord, Dropbox, Steam, and every game I've tested so far work flawlessly. I don't feel like I'm missing anything or had to give up something like I did before. I actually feel like I've upgraded since I'm loving the auto tiling window manager and multiple desktops that Pop!_OS has as options.

  • I recently read an article where Conservative strategists, speaking anonymously, worried that Poilievre won't be able to find another message fast enough before the election. If they're telling that kind of thing to the press then they've got to be worried.

  • It's adorable that someone world think that the fourth most widely-spoken language on the planet is a secret code that no one in public would possibly have a hope of comprehending

Even if someone doesn't know a language initially, they aren't secret codes! Anyone can get a language learning app on their phone and practice it until they know enough to follow a conversation.

  • The current government was kind of a coalition. The NDP agreed to block calls for an early election if the Liberals expanded healthcare to include dental. The NDP thought this would score some political points but the move was seen more as propping up an unpopular government and they caught a lot of flak over it. They have since announced an end to their partnership, called for Trudeau to resign, and will be calling for an early election.

  • There are other parties with seats in parliment but, due to our first past the post voting system, it's rare they win enough seats to effect law changes.

If an area votes 40% Conservative, 35% Liberal, and 25% NDP then the seat goes to the Conservatives despite most of the people voting for left wing parties. People end up voting against the party they don't like by voting for the party most likely to beat them. The NDP supporters will vote Liberal to ensure the Conservatives don't win, causing the NDP to lose votes even though people prefer them over the other two.

  • "The start of a tariff war with the United States is changing voters' moods. It's harder to talk about a broken Canada when there's a growing sense of patriotism," another Conservative source said.

Damn, really sucks that Canadians have pride in their country.
