  • Yes older gen is fine, but I don't see that much of a difference on the 4TB drives, they tend to all start at 190-200€. Maybe because there aren't any older gen at that capacity yet? I haven't followed SSDs progress closely.

I won't buy from Amazon either. I don't have much experience with Aliexpress, and haven't looked up their history out of laziness. Will do.

It's hard, if not impossible, to buy ethical tech. I prefer to buy second hand, but that doesn't really make a difference.

  • Oh it's real. There was a big fundraiser at my sons school, with each kid bringing about a dozen eggs.

This was after a documentary on tv which moved a lot of people called "un oeuf is not enough" showing american families not able to afford eggs

  • How would a VPS make it private? honest question, I have a VPS I could use but I always figured it would be linked to one IP, and I would be the only one using it. Doesn't make much difference compared to home

If I were to share it with a lot of people that would be different I suppose

  • people spend a third of their lives on those things. And while cumbersome, a big screen simply is better for media consumption

only way I see smaller phones make a comeback is if we change our habits or if a new technology comes along

  • Permanently Deleted

    Jump
  • GNOME Web (Epiphany)

I kind of daily drive it as I made webapps with it for some services I host (which Firefox still doesn't offer natively)

The UI is quite nice but it isn't always the smoothest in terms of performances. Still, a very respectable effort

  • Lemmy was created by a tankie, many of whose opinions I abhor.

As long as it's FOSS and doesn't inherently promote their beliefs, I will use the software.

I agree it's not great and I'd prefer if it weren't made by imbeciles

  • Some Proton aren't either.

What is becoming increasing difficult is Youtube. finding a patched client and the right VPN server is no easy task.

As VPN usage becomes more mainstream I believe "premium" offers will start to appear, offering servers with fewer people, regularly renewed IPs, things like that, for a higher price.

I sometimes have to switch servers to comment on Lemmy
