  • Steeve, unless you live in Palo Alto, you have a very pinky in the air definition of decent. I said X SDs above the average so that would account for inflation. I don't know the current number. At one point I think it was like $270k a year. Nothing completely insane. I would guess now it's probably like $450k a year roughly. You make that and you are as happy as someone making double that.

  • That's only true to a point and that point is not very high. There is some good literature on this, but after a handful of standard deviations above high-average income the happiness effect plateaus. Multimillionaires aren't any happier than millionaires and often work more / stress more to get there.

  • It depends on your stage of life, financial situation, priorities, politics, etc. CA does have more laws than most places. Whether any of those really affect you is up to you to determine. Recommend looking at the CA constitution and frankly just seeing what comes up. Pertinent laws will tend to find you. If you really want talk to others that live nearby you as they likely represent your demographic and may be aware of things likely to impact you.

  • Yeah, this bribe culture just needs to be made illegal. Tipping is well established (and really shitty practice), but this bribe thing is growing fast and is a total cancer. It doesn't even have the guise of being an incentive, it's just a threat.

  • Yeah, will be great when we move past gun culture too, but neither of those things will happen in the next two generations. These kinds of things are actively getting worse not better and are so deeply rooted there is no way we are just going to "move past them"

  • Hard to do, but with a very standard keyboard like a Mac keyboard the resonance signatures should be slightly different based on location on the board, take into account pattern recognition, relative pause length between keystrokes, and perhaps some forced training ( ie. Get them to type know words like a name and address to feed algorithm) I think it's potentially possible.
