  • I'm not sure many people do remember him fondly, it's only the far right critters that seem to have any fondness for him.

Imagine Heather Duplisee-allen and David Seymour making public statements saying you'll be missed.

  • Don't they use the same image and style as the billboards they used during the last election? You could make an argument that they are parodying the actual green party billboards.

I don't know how strong that argument would be though.

  • It also doesn't say anything good about the helm and autopilot system that nobody noticed it was off.

In virtually any other similar system, human input will override the system. That's how it works in vehicles, that's how it works in aircraft, I'd have expected there to at least be an alarm that the autopilot was engaged.

  • Virgin are working on a system where a high altitude aircraft will deploy a rocket, and a similar system was developed using an F-14 as a launch vehicle.

I'm not away of a single stage system doing this before now though.

  • It's not explicitly said in the article, but the ships will be sister ships, from my understanding, and will be replacing the entire fleet.

Also, the original vessels were $550 mil for the pair, no way is the cancellation cost more than that.

  • I think the major cost saving is having smaller ships means less port side infrastructure, so even if we do upgrade the port to modern standards, it will still be cheaper.

My understanding is we're buying two ships, which will be identical.

Also, forty rail cars is a lot, each one is equivalent to a fully loaded truck at least.

  • The issue with that suggestion is, it takes much less time to throw out what the last government was doing than to actually do something yourself.

The best way to stop "rip and replace" is to stop fucking up, in my view. The ferry project is a classic example, set to be over a billion dollars over budget, and the boats are only 550 mil each, and the boats were absolute monsters, far bigger than we needed.

Three waters is another example, if Labour had dropped the co-governance aspect, the project would likely have gone ahead without too much controversy, but they pushed ahead with a wildly unpopular proposal, and it was a big part of why they lost the election.
