For me, I do a mix of both. If I know I’m going to watch something multiple times, or want to save it for later I’ll download it, if it’s just a show that I’m casually watching in the background, or I’m using my phone/tablet to kill time I’ll stream it. Also my internet isn’t amazing (starlink) so if I’m downloading an Xbox update or something I can’t always stream 4K content without it buffering, so a lot of time I’ll go ahead and download something beforehand.
I like the fact that all options are equally easy.
Also, the cost of 6 months of RD is roughly equal to the price of a “value meal” at a fast food restaurant these days. Do you really feel bad about not having something to show for when you’re getting 6 months of all the shows you can stream for basically nothing? Especially when you have the option of downloading everything if you want. The entitlement there is a bit much.
You can literally miss 100% of the content from lemmit by blocking one bot. Why would you ever want this instance to defederate and deny everyone else the option to be able to choose if they want to see that content or not?
I can think of plenty of reasons. Lately with the hexbear nonsense, there are tons of seemingly normal sounding communities that you might click on and not realize that you’re being fed propaganda without even knowing it.
Also I saw a community called spoilers yesterday but it was on an instance dedicated to magic the gathering, so I guess the community was dedicated to talking about spoilers from within the game itself. But if all you see is spoilers, it wouldn’t be obvious at all. There are tons of examples of things like this happening when instances are specific. If there’s a community all about sports but it’s hosted on an instance from Australia, that might not be relevant to someone who isn’t from Australia.
More importantly, as with any other feature request, this should be made as an option. If you don’t like it, then don’t enable the option. People that would get benefit from it could choose to enable it. Win/win. I have no idea why anyone would ever argue for optional features to ever not be added. As far as the space restriction goes, it’s already an option to be able to see individual users full instance name, I don’t know why this would take up any more space. It should be exactly the same amount.
I just don’t know why they have to go with such weird colors for this and the zero. I’d take black, white, grey, or even an actual red or blue or really any other primary color over these pastel offerings. I have almost no use for one of these but if it was offered in a normal color, I’d order one right away.
The “workaround” means downgrading to the PWA, which on iOS is functionally not useable for a large number of people, myself included.
I was unfortunately forced to stop using the PWA and Voyager altogether for a while until the native app was released. Going back to it is simply not an option for me.
Maybe so. I do know the main dev of Voyager is pretty active here and open to suggestions for how to make this app better, so I figured I would start here. I have absolutely no idea how receptive to changes the devs of Lemmy are.
I just went and tried USB A-C with 4 different portable chargers I have and all of them worked just fine.
