  • I know that.

I just meant about my first reply to you. Because I was (and I am) a bit tired of people referring to the US as America, when America is the whole continent and not a country, and I saw you spoke about South America, I was just thinking "well, if this dude wonders about the situation in South America, and some people refers to America as a country, I'll just put Florida as part of South America so the illogical logic reverses to them".

  • Well, I'm surprised by that reaction. I didn't expect that someone agreed with me on the fact that Florida was part of South America, between Argentina and Chile.

  • In my country, supermarkets aren't allowed to sell eggs from caged hens. Only eggs from hens raised outdoors. There are four categories of eggs marked with numbers:

    • 0: eggs from caged hens, not sold anywhere legally.
    • 1: eggs from uncaged hens but raised indoors, very difficult to find.
    • 2: eggs from uncaged hens and raised outdoors, easy to find.
    • 3: eggs from uncaged hens, raised outdoors and feed with natural food, without pesticides and shit, easy to find.

By the way, US is neither the center of the world nor the only country in the world. Sorry to say that, but I think it's necessary to say it.

  • Can anyone explain to me why being vegan is the new cool, while being vegetarian is equal to eating meat without eating meat? Like, when I'm looking for vegetarian recipes, I only see vegan recipes, no vegetarian ones anywhere.

  • It's just an example. I could write another one, but that's the one that came into my head at that moment, the easiest one for me to be understood.

  • The main problem I see is that news outlets, people, and link aggregators like Lemmy/Kbin, mainly focus on the negative side instead of the positive said.

For example, focusing on the negative side would be "Climate change is here and we are doomed". Focusing on the positve side would be "These are the things you can do to alleviate climate change". Climate change is the main topic in both information sources, but changing the focus means better discussions, less ragebait and doombait, and a healthier environment for all of us.

Linking to news outlets won't change that, because we all know how they work. But I agree with OP, ragebait doesn't benefit anyone and only harms our mental health.

Unsubscribing or blocking communities/magazines is something that we can do, but that also prevents us to read other kind of news that are posted on those communities/magazines.

  • In my town (Oviedo, Spain), when two buses of the same route are one after the other, the leading bus driver doesn't open the doors for people to enter, only the doors for people to exit, so the bus driver who is behind can accept those waiting people... and it might have people who want to exit too. So, eventually, the gap between both buses increases.

  • So... is she Megamind's daughter?

  • And tankies feel comfortable with that way of thinking. BuT nO, uKrOnAzIs.

  • Interstellar. I watched it like 4 times.

  • Wow, old reddit UI for lemmy! That's freaking awesome!

  • I choose 1 and 3. 1 because I like learning languages, and 3 because ADHD, motherfuckers.

  • I’m sure more toxicity will come as the user base continues to grow but, for now, this place is pretty fuckin’ cool and I appreciate you all.

One thing I learnt about toxicity during the year and few months I'm on the fediverse is that admins are more proactive to the server's rules. There are servers with fewer rules or with poor admins/moderators, but those that are more serious, you won't feel like you're defenceless.

Another good thing is that you can create your own server with your own rules and a better management than the place where you were on.

So, yes, toxicity will come eventually, but with a good set of rules and decent admins/moderators to make them come into effect, this place will be wonderful.

  • It's like the angry gopnik in a red jacket got old.

  • Besides that game, I also found DCSS (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup), also free and open-source. Other games I enjoyed in the past are Vector Pinball, Mindustry, which is like Factorio; Minetest exists also for mobile; Simon Tatham's puzzles, Pixel Wheels, and if you like Civ 5, there is a game called Unciv. All of them are free and open-source.

  • Yes, I noticed that my wording was not entirely correct.

  • Fucking clickbait headlines. I'm tired of them.
