PC was used correctly too. Doesn’t word “woke” mean two diff iterent things to users supporting that and opposing? To these opposing it’s more clearly represented as “wokeism”, almost a religion that demands you obey it’s rules or be treated like a religious one heathen (as religions often do). To supporters it’s like you said - closer to “being aware of and concerned about social issues”.
Yeah, there’s nothing said about being against in the comment you’re replying to. Just that changing the term to woke is not necessarily bad. Where did you take that from?
How did you come to conclusion they weren’t (mostly) correct? The average attention span is getting shorter every generation, maybe they were right all along ;)
You’re proposing the progressive crowd to be more radical - do you have any views/proposed solution for people that do not see your way and are unlikely to - e.g. radical pro-life people (that tend to stick with right side on economic/education policies as, well, their world view doesn’t fit good with the left… even if some would gladly vote for more progressive economic policies).
So in your “ideal” scenario, which is it:
a) No place for them in academia? I.e. force your will
b) Let states decide? E.g. California implements some vanguard radical DEI policies while eg. Texas/whatever does it’s own thing and migration/ratings do the job.
c) something else?
Probably to underscore it is not widely known - same as one might say something like that in an actual conversation even if not asked “do you know X” before.
The grabbing part is clear - but “calm your tits” and “stop being such a bitch”? At least where I live both are gender neutral, first one even used most often male to male. Am I missing something? Would it not have been sexual harassment but just toxic culture if it was another cuss? E.g. when you say “motherfucker” you don’t actually mean “somebody having sexual relations with one’s mother”. Can somebody with more knowledge about US legal system explain this to me?
I share your sentiment however despite the “looks” the actual line does not matter much. It’s about what you have to do to gain rights. Is traveling across some line and being desperate enough to grant this person rights? (Like right to work/live in some community/country)? Or are some additional hoops needed? If they’re needed why should anybody allow other people rights just for traveling across the line? Isn’t it unfair to these who spent years of work trying to go through proper procedure? Maybe it’s okay if somebody is desperate? But then what is the measure of “desperate” - it’s a pretty unclear term.
That’s a great example - makes me wonder who actually liked it in the first place to sell it - my boss, his boss and basically everyone I knew hated open space. Where did this scourge originate?
Sure, which side is default (or other small nuisances) might be preference, but if you take away the option to customize (which was once there) the critic is valid IMO.
Request to provide a flag to disable it - I really dislike this behavior in apps and I am pretty sure there is accessibility argument to be made here to at least have an option to disable that :)
What do you mean? Being on instance X federated with Y would you like to have the possibility to not see content posted by people from Y? Does the content include comments? (Imagine weird blank spots in the middle of conversation and people replying to non-existing for you message). Would you like to also not see Y in search results?
Eh, I guess once august hits October feels really close and soon (in over a month) we’ll see it hit fully with shops coming with Halloween themed stuff long before Halloween itself.
Yeah, as I wrote :) Ani-woke has another definition of what “woke” means.
