  • It would be useful everywhere else, apart from when pulled over by a cop. Like at a bar, grocery / liquor store while buying drinks, airport security if TSA allows it and any store which needs your ID for pickup. No need to pull my ID out if I’m just going to pay with my phone.

  • Cradlewise. At least that is a one time $120 fee and you don’t need an additional app subscription to use it, for now. It might get worse as the first set of users are just starting to sell theirs, as it’s useless after 2 years.

For Pelaton, it’s reactivation fee + app subscription.

  • I don’t think anyone is saying that chromecast as a “functionality” is being killed. It’s not the same product, the new one is a set top box compared to the current dongle, with better specs and 3 times the price. People would buy multiple chromecast dongles to have it all around their house or to carry it when traveling. Now, many will not do it with this set top box.

They kept the same name and functionality but definitely “killed” the old product - chromecast dongle which everyone knows as chromecast.

  • I got a watch band bought from Amazon for $10, as a Christmas gift. It was the wrong size so I ordered one from Aliexpress. The packaging and the sticker with Chinese lettering were exactly the same as the Amazon one and it was only about $1. Sure, the Amazon package came sooner but it was evident that it was the same product.

  • My iPad Air 3rd gen screen started malfunctioning, so in January 2022, I bought the iPad 9th gen because I didn't want to part with my Logitech keyboard case.

The first thing I noticed was the screen's reflectiveness. While a matte screen protector helps, it doesn't completely replicate the antireflective screen of the Air 3. The difference is noticeable when the two iPads are side by side but it’s not a lot.

Another issue is that the screen protector isn't as smooth as glass, so you can hear it when swiping in a quiet room. However, since I mostly use my Logitech keyboard with a trackpad, I rarely touch the screen. It's not a major issue, but worth mentioning. There might be better screen protectors available.

Performance-wise, I did not notice any significant differences for my daily activities. However, my iPad has recently started slowing down and freezing when watching videos and using Safari after about 2.5 years. Backing up and restoring it has helped. Maybe you could try it, and see if it helps, if you haven’t already.

I chose the 9th gen primarily because it fits my existing case perfectly and has performed well for browsing and watching movies for over two years.

I would recommend the 9th gen as it will get longer OS updates compared to the iPad Air 3 and you can use your existing stand. But you might have to replace both in 2-3 years.

  • Every public WiFi is like this. iCloud relay doesn’t work on any airport or airplane WiFi. I need to always turn it off and other ‘hide IP’ settings. I have a Target with a dead zone and I’m sure T&C are the same. I just use it when I need it and don’t auto-connect. Walmart needs precise location to pick up from the app. Sam’s club app needs precise location for checkout form the app. Mcd app needs my precise location to give me deals. I wouldn’t say this is asshole design. Our regulation let them design it this way. I turn off my NextDNS and iCloud relay when I’m having issues and then turn back on. Nothing else you can do about it, apart from not using the WiFi or app, unfortunately.
