  • Digital Camera IMages.

  • The only issue I had was some torrent app which stored the files in its own data folder which was inaccessibile to any other app. What use is a downloaded file that you can't open? That's almost like having an iPhone.

(edit:apparently my iPhone knowledge is a bit dated now.)

  • Not tell anyone if possible. Big winnings are the way to ruin in most cases.

  • Kbin PWA on Firefox on Android. Was using Chrome but it won't let me log in any more, invalid CSRF error.

  • That's rare.

Perhaps use ddrescue on a mint or Ubuntu live cd / usb. It'll duplicate the drive bit for bit.

Or if you don't want to learn this stuff, buy a Samsung SSD and use Samsung's free but temperamental cloning app

  • I can get about six hours of free heating during the day from the sun over winter in Australia, using solar and a split system. Only if the sun is unobscured though.

Summer is better of course, due to the longer daylight.

  • Rare, but it could be a nat table exhaustion. My old 'commander' modem would do the same thing if I opened a bittorrent client.

Try a free or trial VPN like tunnelbear to see if this is the cause. It's probably not, but it's one more thing you can try.

  • There was probably a small hole in the back of your Walkman. Behind it was a slot you could turn with a screwdriver to adjust the speed.

This would work for a few years until the motor commutator would go a bit dodgy.

  • How about not just dumping the user to a weird terminal prompt at startup because it thinks the file system needs a check?

They shouldn't have to google what to do next.

  • I disagree on the efficacy of evaporative coolers. When I lived in Bourke, they were excellent. Typically roof mounted models such as these. Very low power usage for whole house cooling, but the massive caveat is they don't work well in humid places.

A simple portable one like the Convair Classic will only really help whoever's near it, but at under 80 watts of power it'll run off even the cheapest inverter and car battery in an emergency.

Solar panels make the cost of using a split system practically nothing during daylight hours, with little net additional heat created in the process.

  • Aircon plus solar panels for the win? Other than the initial manufacturing cost, it's a fairly good solution.

For those with a limited budget in a dry heat area, a large portable Swamp box and a single panel may be enough. Needs access to water though...

  • For a compressor to catch fire there must have been other issues. Simply leaving a fridge door open should not be sufficient to have a catastrophic failure - an overheat cut out should have tripped. Still, good that you had CYA under control.

  • A car can run on petrol, LPG, diesel, electricity or hydrogen. The result is still the same - a thing that moves when you push on the go pedal.

For almost everyone, it makes no practical difference which fuel makes the website work.

  • You only need to floss the teeth that you want to keep.

  • I'm a light handed mod for a Facebook group of about 2,000 people. If I didn't do that it'd either have to go private or it would be overrun with spam. I care about my community and giving everyone a fair go, so that's why I do it.

I would imagine being a mod on a fediverse community would be much the same.

  • True. But if the client can see the duplicate and merge the post plus the comments from both posts into one on the user's device, it would be transparent to the user. We're just not there yet.

I think the same would also be useful where the same article (post) is made on multiple subs (communities / magazines) within a certain time window. It's annoying seeing the same post multiple times in /all.
