  • Interesting. Will port87 work with third-party mail clients?

  • network-connected wrenches

Do wrenches really need to be networked? Honest question

  • No idea, sorry. I've switched to trizen when lack of development on pacmatic became an issue, few years ago

  • That might be a good idea, true. I haven't payed attention to its updates. But then, I also haven't had any issues with trizen last few years

  • Are you looking for this?

    And sorry but... RTFM ;)

And when you're ready, I suggest trizen for AUR management

EDIT: yeah, you can use npm, rpm, deb, snap, etc. But from my experience using the packages and package manager from the distro you're using breaks less often. Only python packages in a venv I'd consider an exception.
And in case of Arch, if you really can't wait a few days for the newest version of a thing, that's what AUR -git packages are for

  • What’s as big as a house, burns 20 liters of fuel every hour, puts out a shit-load of smoke and noise, and cuts an apple into three pieces?

A Soviet machine made to cut apples into four pieces!

  • Using an analogy, somewhere along the road we came from "your lips will look nice with this lipstick" to "I can't leave a house without a lipstick on". And raising awareness about issues is basically a marketing too. It has to be in order to make it through to you among all the other noise. It's just that this time it's not you who are not thin/tall/curvy/vibrant/... enough, it's the world that is not safe/happy/wealthy/just enough. I'm not saying that it's not true but this has a side effect that when you are overstimulated with the ads and news, it does feel like the world is going to end.

Think about what would really have to happen to purge us all, 100%. Even climate change, I don't think could do it. 90% maybe, and sure that would be a change in our world. But still not the end of it. I can't find the paper now, but we only need something like 1000 random people to survive in order to have enough genetic diversity for the species to survive. Something would have to wipe us all at once to really kill us. Otherwise, we'll just adapt and carry on.

And if not. Welp, that's a chance for the UFOs to thrive. It's not like humanity is required for the wheels to keep turning

  • your everyday web browser

I only see chromium referenced, where's firefox?

  • Yeah, and so it becomes political so no-one will ever know the truth

  • I guess that, with the source narrowed down to the plant, this is the next question but

One theory is that the cinnamon may have been contaminated for economic reasons, agency officials said. That could mean an ingredient is added or subtracted from a food to to boost its value. For example, compounds like red brick, red lead salt, lead oxide and lead chromate, which mirror cinnamon’s red color, have been added to increase the value of the spice, research shows.

    and then

FDA officials said they “cannot take direct action” with Negasmart and are relying on officials in Ecuador for the investigation into the company’s actions. Negasmart does not ship product directly to the U.S. and of Negasmart’s customers, only Austrofoods shipped foods to the U.S., the agency said.

  • Yes, it would be stupid approach. But that is the minimal viable approach to having a "Wine/Proton build"

  • If I buy a thing and it has a different plug, the problem is not my outlets, but producer/seller

Oh, I am definitely not against shaming a developer that does that. We (Linux gaming community) have been complaining about this long before Valve even had a native Linux client. But as long as developers don't pay attention if the game will run on Linux (native or Wine), there isn't really much Linux community could do about

  • I'm sure Steam knows what client it uses. Which means there could be. And having a build that works with a defined version of Wine or Proton would be such a build

  • But this is not a problem with Linux, really. There are many multiplayer and using some king of anti-cheat system games that work perfectly fine. The developer of this one simply didn't care (or didn't want for whatever reason) for the game to run on Linux in any form, so it's not working. Sometimes you get lucky and Wine can run a game like this but this is not the real solution. If developer wants it to run on Mac, they create a Mac build, they want it to run on older Windows, they probably have to prepare separate build for older Windows, they want it to run on consoles, they create builds for the consoles they want it to run. Linux/Proton/Wine build seems to be missing

  • So it's not like: when I affect the hue (some attribute) of my half, the other half will change too? That has always been my understanding of it

  • 0_o but you do need to configure a bunch of stuff in the kernel for X.org to work

I'm guessing that you've been using kernels from packages provided by your distribution and its maintainers simply haven't decided yet that Wayland is used wide enough to put things it needs into default kernel. But that's just a matter of time.
On distribution I use, for example, I did not have to compile my own kernel when I decided to check Wayland out. But that's only because kernel package maintainers of my distribution have decided to enable it earlier

  • Regarding Wayland, looking at this it seems that it might be pretty straightforward but then for example sway seems to be defining seats a little bit different. So it might require some tinkering in the end, depending which compositor you decide to use.
Loginctl seems to be X/Wayland independent and useful in both.

From what I've found it seems that there are more questions on the internet regarding something not working well in multi-seat or needing a patch for that, than how to set the multi-seat up. Situations like this usually mean that setting this thing up is quite straightforward. It might also be a niche, though

  • Of course. And you know where is the end of this line? When we are allowed to rent (DRM) the games for absurd amount of money or for a sane one but with ads every 5 minutes. Add a microtransaction that blocks ads for 15 minutes in MMOs to the mix and maybe have less ads shown on big streamers' accounts so it doesn't look that bad on let's plays
