  • Argument from fallacy. Just because an argument contains a fallacy doen not mean that its conclusion is false. In this context I feel like it would be much more effective to point out that cigarettes are totally unnecessary, while owning a car (depending on where you live) is not. Putting a warning label on something like cigarettes is not comparable to putting warning signs on something that you actively need to survive.

  • I'm sure that they have a sign by the front stating that they do this. Probably on the menu as well. I doubt that most people are doing the math themselves and are more likely to see a $10 menu item and think it's $10 + tax and fees. Basically the extra fees are an afterthought.

  • A lot of people are only passingly interested in video games. For people that just want to sit down and play something having to learn about the game and how it's played is work, not entertainment. I can see how someone who only games maybe once a week could have some real fun playing a sports game. It's very easy to pick up because they already know the rules. I don't agree personally, for me games are the most fun when I'm interacting with a new mechanic, but I am also willing to grind for hours optimizing and learning to push the game to its limits. If you don't have the time for all that, but you still want to game, sports games are a perfect entry point. Not even I can come up with a justification for the pricing though.

  • If you raise the price of everything by 18% the prices on the menu will be 18% higher, possibly discouraging people from eating there. If you add it at the end people will still choose to eat there at least once. It is practically the same as raising prices, just a lot more dishonest.

  • At first I thought I was having a stroke, then I realized it was a key. If I may ask, why spell everything out instead of just posting a copy and paste able code? Only thing I could come up with was to prevent bots from scraping codes out of comments, but I think it would still be pretty easy to parse it into a regular game code.

  • Exactly! I kept trying to log in just to see if it was a temporary outage, but well it wasn't to be. It's at least good to know I wasn't alone. Out of everything on Lemmy I really liked the vibe there, but if it's down for good I guess it's time to move on.

  • Damn I remember the post about defederating from some instances due to German law, but I never really went to the comments because everything they said was pretty understandable. I don't blame them either for the decision, but like you said I wish there would have been a little heads up. At least I now have some idea of what happened and where to find that community again. Thanks for the info!

  • Ordinary well-adjusted people with wealth and belief that the world that you bring your children into isn't a doomed from the start. A lot of 'well-adjusted' people can't afford to have kids, or they don't believe that their kids will have anything to aspire to. I don't want to be rude, and correct me if I'm wrong, but this comes of as any old Dick or Harry should have kids. For a lot of people in the west kids are simply out of the question if you plan to keep your current quality of life. Which is to say nice job! An actually unpopular opinion!

  • I haven't actually read anything he's produced but I got very interested after playing World of Horror which is heavily inspired by his work. I feel like I've already seen some of the creepy stuff from The Enigma of Amigara Fault and Uzumaki so I feel less interested in starting them(Or at least starting WITH them). Do you have a favorite that isn't one of the popular memes that you recommend?
