  • For those who are confused, this is the City of Brussels:

The City of Brussels ... is the largest municipality and historical centre of the Brussels-Capital Region, as well as the capital of the Flemish Region (from which it is separate) and Belgium ... As of 1 January 2023, the City of Brussels had a population of 194,291 inhabitants. The total area is 33.09 km2

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CityofBrussels

It's the bit in the middle of Brussels where you can buy waffles and admire a naked boy's urination skills.

  • There are people who say Vladimir Putin fell down a set of stairs and shit himself. I don't know if Vladimir Putin fell down a set of stairs and soiled himself. What I do know is that the Kremlin press office explicitly denied that Vladimir Putin fell down a set of stairs and soiled himself. Obviously, it wouldn't be the first time the Kremlin lies about something, but that doesn't mean it is true that Vladimir Putin fell down a set of stairs and shit himself. It is also possible that it is not true that Vladimir Putin fell down a set of stairs and shit himself.

  • The true moral of the story is to not believe Hollywood PR. Will Smith has been a media darling for decades. The guy could do no wrong.

Now it turns out he's just another deeply flawed rich person.

An important lesson for people who idolize celebrities and engage in parasocial relationships with them. Whether it's Kim Kardashian or Keanu Reeves, you have no idea of what they're really like, stop fooling yourself that you do.

  • I assume it's also priced that way because it can be used for propaganda.

Legacy media, hasn't made a profit for years? There's always some rich fascist cunt or nasty foreign government willing to buy it for more than it's worth so they can push their agenda.

It's not about making money for them. It's about power and influence.

  • Just to add:

    • Syria: they also allowed Russian Islamic extremists to go fight in Syria rather than cause trouble in Russia - some of them reportedly joined ISIS
    • Dagestan
    • Sudan/Darfur
    • disproportionate recruitment of Muslim minorities for the Ukrainian front
    • violent repression of Muslim minorities
    • involvement in the Sahel + helping military regimes in Niger/Mali/Burkino Faso fight ISIS affiliated groups
    • Afghanistan: ISIS have previously attacked the Russian embassy there, saying the Taliban aren't radicals and are Russian puppets.
    • Iran: ISIS has perpetrated attacks in Iran, hates the Iranian regime. Iran is a Russian ally and provides them with drones for Ukraine, Russia in turn supports Iran.

    Etc. etc. etc.

  • Israel's also an important weapons manufacturer and importer.

If the deal Israel has with the US explodes, China would be more than happy to fill that void. Sell them some more weapons, import some fancy missile tech, etc. Their current stance belies years of cooperation, including weapons deals. Something the US was pressuring them on. (I say current stance, but they just blocked a cease fire, so it may be that they're already making the pivot).

Not as if they actually give a shit about human rights of Gazans, despite the propaganda.

In international politics morality always comes second to real politik. There are no good guys.

  • “oh, I know that language too!” from someone. And… They don’t.

Prime example: according to numerous surveys more Dutch people speak French well than Belgians.

Belgian is half French speaking, French is taught in Flemish schools from an early age, and many Dutch/Flemish speakers work in predominantly French speaking Brussels, and/or have French speaking friends/relatives.

But it's understandable: a Dutch person thinks their French is great if they manage to order something in a French restaurant while on holiday and have the waiter understand them. That's more than enough for their purposes. A Flemish Belgian thinks their French is bad, if they're unable to write a letter in French which respects rules like those about accord COD/COI (Elle a pris des photos. Les photos qu'elle a prises. Elle est allée prendre des photos. - Hope that's correct)

That and Dunning Kruger. If you have little competence in foreign languages, you don't know enough to know that you don't know enough.

  • After he's moved some of Russia's abundant supply of troops to the border, maybe he can also match increasing NATO military spending. Ignore the US, only match Europe. The EU's GDP is over 20 trilion 2% target = 400 billion.

Russia's currently at 69.5 billion spending, so a 450% increase should get it near EU spending. That works out at roughly 20% of GDP. Maybe increase refinery production and export a bit more oil or export gas to some of the more affluent markets.

    Good luck!

I'm sure we'll all be saying "Mission Accomplished" on a very 'special' president's 'special' military operation very soon.
