  • What's wrong with Mullvad for streaming and privacy? They have fast server speeds, and their hardware can't physically log user activity.

  • Well, I don't have an account and it removes their trackers so I'd say so. Their algorithm still works

  • All good points, however the purpose of a deadman's switch is that you fear for your life, taking a nap might not be as easy under those circumstances. Also, if you know at what time the SMS is set to arrive you can plan ahead to make sure you have Internet in order to respond, but OK maybe 60 seconds is too short of a time so let's make it 5 minutes. Being that this is using Google Voice, you can receive the SMS over a tablet or laptop so a backup would be a must have.

  • I enjoy tiktok (using Vanced) but I don't care if it goes away tomorrow. With that said, I don't like this ban as it sets a precedent where corporations can just ban the competition.

  • Depends on your background and industry.

If you work in IT, and are technically adept, you can...

    1. Store said files on a proton drive or mega.nz drive set to be only accessible to read by those who have the unique URL.
    2. Create a small server with a cron job that every 24 hours sends you a text message to a Google Voice number accessible anywhere with internet connectivity and you have 60 seconds to reply otherwise the cron job will craft a premade email to all international news agencies as well as government agencies responsible for the control of this issue, along with links to download the information.
  • Reminds of the pro-brexit voters when they truly understood what they voted for

  • Unless you go out a hero or a night city legend

  • Does it even matter at this point? Any phone that costs more than $1000 is too much regardless.

  • Show her it works, set boundaries, and enforce them. She cannot use you as a crutch for her inability.

If all else fails, fix it one last time, and tell her she needs to go to best buy (or whatever tech store offers tech support) for the next time and when she asks for you to fix it, just stand your ground and make her pay for someone else to deal with her shit.

  • Yeah Good point. the storage is the most expensive part. I did find these SSDs at a good price and with high reviews on Amazon which would cost $356 for 4 before taxes (a little better that 480€, but not by much).

Edit: Another thought would be to use the sata hat on the pi and get some sort of adapter to work with the platter drives but that would just add in the complexity and would likely require a PC power supply for the drives which would also add costs.

  • Haven't read the article, but unlockable bootloaders are on the rise.

  • Buy second hand, don't buy new unless you know that the company is trying to solve climate change. Example, at Honolulu there's a company that is setting up water filling stations on some hotels and providing these hotels with aluminum bottles for the folks staying in the hotel so hotels can provide water to their guests and stop plastic pollution.

  • Oh for sure, fuck those places. I rather order from a small mom & pop restaurant than from some corpo chain. I just mentioned Chili's because OP sounded like convenience was important and ordering from an app and just going to pick up seems universally convinient. I rather cook for myself, but when I feel lazy I treat myself at a restaurant, but then again I'm not the audience this post is targeting

  • Honest question, have you tried other places that were not fast food (ie. Chilli's) or cooking quick meals that didn't work out for you? If so, what?
