  • There seems to be a concerted effort to try and smear liberals/democrats here lately. Attention grabbing headline that not untrue, just purposefully distorting the reality by conveniently leaving out important information.

There was a post yesterday that has since disappeared titled “California governor Newsom vetoes bill that would have set a $35 cap for insulin”, which conveniently left out that it was a copay cap, not a real cap making it a worthless token gesture.

  • It's controversial because its a bad bill that's easy to pick apart. Capping the copay is stupid. It does nothing for those without insurance. And for those with insurance, the insurers will just jack up other rates instead.

  • It's actually huge.

CA is still going to be have it's insurance programs for low income people. And instead of paying a greed company a bunch of our tax money for insulin people need to survive, CA will be paying ~$30 for it.

  • For anyone curious why one of the most progressive governors would do this......

It was a $35 cap on copays, not on the drug itself. Does not help the uninsured and the insured would just have higher rates instead.

CA is literally going to produce their own insulin, $30. No insurance, no bullshit.

  • Glad were on the same page. When I saw:

Your toddler talking about sex can lead to undesirable social consequences.

something that shouldn't happen with age appropriate sex ex, it seemed like you thought toddlers were actually being taught about sex.

  • When we talk about statistically insignificant we're looking to rule out random chance... was there a 2% rise in sales because of the coupon, or could the coupon had nothing to do with it and sales were just up by 2% for other reasons...

A non zero number of people decided to show up with signs to pretend to be something they aren't. That doesn't just randomly happen.

  • This is what they don't seem to understand. The sex ed is age appropriate. No one is talking about condoms with 6 year olds. They're hearing about boundaries and bathing suit areas. It makes them less likely to be abused and more likely to report abuse.

  • They did have some dino bones, and some artifacts from the past hundred years, like here’s how people washed clothes in the 1800’s, with the real ones behind glass and the recreations you could play with….

But I get your point. My point, and I think the point of others in this thread a is that this is a very complex issue and claiming that all museums are unethical is a gross over simplification and wrong.

There are clear ethical issues with some museums, especially how they acquired their pieces and how some wealthy abuse them to save on taxes. (and probably a bunch of other stuff too.) However to start with ‘all museums are unethical’ is a bad starting place as it’s going to be dismissed out of hand because it’s preposterous. Instead of having a conversation about the unethical things some museums do, we get easy counter examples, jokes, and yet another thing conservatives will point to when they claim liberals are crazy.

  • Because it’s not a conviction, yet.

As soon as that happens, or as soon as it becomes painfully obvious they are guilty everyone should be calling for them to resign.

But no, not before then. It’s too easy these days to just make up shit and hope it sticks, and takes too long to disprove it in the court of public opinion.

Please read up on what happened to Acorn a few years ago. They did nothing wrong, but with highly edited video ‘evidence’ they were destroyed in the court of public opinion and destroyed.
