  • Yep, I use Librewolf for 90% of stuff and ungoogled chromium for the rest. Also PSA for those who don’t know: try spoofing your user agent on websites that “don’t support” Firefox. It works about half the time in my experience. You can find extensions to do it.

  • This reminded me of an idea of using mesh networks to create an internet separate from the current internet. By that I mean physically running Ethernet cables from window to window between houses. It is unlikely to ever happen because it would need a lot of people to join it all at once, but I think it is a cool concept. Perhaps if I put my Jellyfin server on it and tell my neighbors about the free tv opportunity…

Edit: Forgot to mention, this was inspired by the Cuban networks that were basically the same thing. It is worth a browser search if you are bored.

  • I don’t know if these are the same but I quite like ddg html. I still don’t fully trust them because ‘murica but I haven’t heard of anything from them yet. I will probably switch to selfhosted librex sometime.

  • As far as I know, yes. If I were doing something a little more criminal, I would be somewhat hesitant, but it is still better than a vpn for privacy / piracy / private piracy. The speed does suck tho…

  • I know you mentioned infinitime, but the PineTime is seriously great and can be flashed with custom firmware to improve functionality. I have had mine for a while and flashed wasp os and then back to infinitime without it ever breaking. Worst case, you are out 30 bucks.

  • Microsoft bribing ISO to make their crappy standard docx the norm then implementing the docx standard differently in word than in the official docs they made so that FOSS alternatives don’t work as well IIRC.

  • Not sure. There may be more up to date info then this, so if anyone corrects me they are probably right. Anyway, invidious was given a notice from google but it cited YouTube’s api terms which don’t apply because invidious doesn’t use the api. I’m not sure what has happened since but that should be enough to start (search engine)ing it.
