  • A large part of the British population would like to do something as well.

Issue it, they know anything close to replacing the harm would bankrupt citizens who had nothing to do with the events.

When you think of the cost of paying back slave owners. As evil as the whole idea seems to us in this time. The cost placed our nation into debt until 2015. And that was a debt that basically built our economy. Seriously, few recognise this, but the UK benefited way more from paying off slave owners then from slavery or any other event in UK history. But still left descendents who never participated in slavery and were non-existent during those choices. Paying off debts for 182 years.

Reparations that do not actually leave the UK would be meaningless. So the request translates to people born 200 years after the actions with a debt that will only remove investment from the nation, harming future children who did not exist at the time.

Unfortunately, even those who want to do something find it hard to argue what.

Until the reparations debate can move towards a suggestion that helps all nations. It will be hard, no mater how powerful ex slave nations become. In fact, if your predictions are correct (and I agree they likely are) Move power in the southern nations will result in less ability for the north to make effective payments of any kind.

The conversation is needed. And has been since at east 1833. But without a time machine, that conversation is going to need to be more about building an equal honest future than repairing the past.

  • But that is not what is happening,

Starmer is talking about taxes, not people. Right-wing newspapers are trying to link the 2, but that is a false link.

We saw all this in the lead up to the election. The tory press tried it then but it was ignored.

If you remember, the Labour manifesto made promises about not raising "Working Taxes" That distinction was clear in the promise. But the Tory party and right wing press constantly interpreted it as not raising any taxes.

Many got pissed of that Starmer refused to address it then. How did not seem to think it mattered. Likely he thought it was not worth this argument.

He is now making exactly the same claim. Working taxes is not money earned from shares or rent. It never has been, that is why it is called capital gains tax etc.

Just because you may also work does not mean your rent income and retirement savings should be taxed as working income.

That is all he is saying. He is not raising working taxes because rent and share profit is not working taxes.

The right wing press are trying to make a fight that dosent exist. Rather then try to aregue why he should not change captal gains tax.

  • Yes if you own rather then sublet and yes now final salary etc pensions are close to non existant.

Dose not mean it is wrong. But just like the others doing it it is not worked for income but investment income.

Judging from the answers here everyone has a pretty clear idea of the difference between investment and work.

  • And, as everyone here says. He is correct. It is an investment. Not work. Yes you are taking a risk, that is the point. If you work, you should not be taking a risk. But instead paid for your labour.

Unfortunately, saying it here doesn't matter. Papers like the telegraph and other Tory press are not going to care about the facts. They only care about creating division.

More importantly, Starmer et al. Are also not going to make the effort to argue this case. No effort is going to be made to push forward the true difference between working class income and actual investment income.

Anyone watching saw this argument starting during the election. It was clear then when labour started talking about working taxes. The Tories instantly started arguing that the Tories were talking about not raising taxers at all. Anyone watching saw this discussion forming.

And Starmer et al. intentionally ignored it rather than draw attention to the difference. They will not bother to fight the terminology now either.

  • Good start. Now expand to all current and future battery devices. Honestly, disposable battery devices are a bad, out of date idea. Doing nothing but long term harm to the environment.

But nothing will change until firms are forced to do so. It's just time until the next huge disposable trend if it is not addressed now.

  • Nope. Nor evidence of it haveing ever existed.

The above guess is no better then religion. Based on current evidence.

  • Can

    An important missed word.

Issue is it depends on building them correctly with production of crops being the priority over production of power.

Issue is UK farmers have been penalised due to loss of government funding. So profiting from crops has been bloody hard for a few years now.

This means the few solar plants being built in the UK on arable land, are generally renting fields farmers have stopped using for crops.

  • High use Blender users tend to avoid AMD for the reasons you point out.

This leads to less updates due to amd users not being to interested in the community.

It is an issuw without any practicle solution. Because as I need a long overdue update. Again nvidia seems the only real choice.

Everyone is sorta forced to do that unless we can convince amd users to just try out blender and submit results.

So hi any AMD users who dont care about blender.

Give it a try and submit performance data please.

  • Seriosly the freedom of women in Afghanistan is a seriose issue. As it is in many places.

But Cats seems to be a very very bad example. Most of the world. With the exception of a few owners that keep them indoors.

They are the pet with the most freedom. More so then any human.

Unless she is specifically considering the female feline mating experience.

  • Yeah looks very much like nvidia is exclusive at the top even at the price I'm looking at.

The RTX4060 looks about right price vs performance. I'll spend some time looking up how well they play with linux atm. And keep an eye out for a used RTX4070 as well.

  • If no one minds my hyjacking part of this thread.

Id also like some similar advice.

I use blender. Not heavily but have been playing on it for 20plus years.

My GPU is pretty old. 1050ti at the time nvidia was pretty much it for blender.

Im looking for a sub £300 card in the next 3 to 6 months.

Is AMD well supported by blender now. And what cards would folks recomend these days.

PS not a gamer. 0ad is about as close as i get.

  • As I understand it. From a lawyer.

Yep but you first have to win a disceimination case. Without thT they just deny the event.

Likely he would given the claimed comment. But without witnesses it can be hard to win.

  • It is possible that is a lawyers recomendation.

Due to him maybe planing to sue the shit out of the place. And naming them may harm his case.

  • Adding, the UK is the world's largest legal weed exporter. And many politicians are connected with that industry. Directly or via funding through other financial industry means.

The illegality in the UK makes setting up legal grow farms more complex and outside of smaller investors / business startups. So the laws help to keep competition out of the legal export market.

  • Agreed. And when data like this is shared by honest consideration. It can help with moral.

But the tittle here is extremely false. And the lack of science in headlines can be dangerous.

I have been T1d for over 40 years. I was promised by doctors in the 1980s that e were close to a cure. I have seen friends die because of that hope. IE, thinking the cure is so close they don't need to worry.

I had been a T1d for nearly 20 years when science discovered the autoimmune issue. And I realised. Not only are we not close to a cure. But we have absolutely no idea how to address the immune system attacking our own pancreas.

At the time. Sure, doctors honestly believed transplants might work. So those kids that failed to treat it like a lifetime condition. Sorry for the error. But the advice was at least based on the best knowledge of the time.

Issue is I still see doctors claiming we are a few years from a cure, more than 40 years later. When absolutely no positive research exists covering a cure for the immune issue. This has lead to a whole generation of T1ds like me and my brother who find articles like this insulting and dangerous. As we have seen, the harm false hope can cause.

Honestly, promise of better treatment is way more viable than promise of an unknown cure. When I was diagnosed, portable blood testing was impossible. Urine tests once a day was the best w could get. We had no fast insulin. So I had to inject to cover the whole da. And eat a little every 2 hours to prevent dying of hypoglycaemia. Honestly, not only were we unable to keep track and manage our level well. We had no idea what a non T1ds levels looked like over time.

Modern medicine has changed T1d treatment hugely in my lifetime. To the point where my life expectancy on diagnosis was about 45 years. And my health now. Means that really is not absurdly far off. The harm done in those first years of poor insulin and no blood testing out weighed much of the later good.

That is the story modern young diabetics need to be encouraged by. Newly diag T1ds now can expect to live as long as a non t1d if managed well. Teaching them that managing the T1d well now will lead to better easier management as the tech improves, and maybe in the future we will learn enough to actually address the immune issue. Will provide a better long term outcome to new T1ds today. Then getting hopes up for a cure just around the corner, dose. T1ds have a long history of negative humer and giving up the battle. Bad Science articles like this and worse still medicle professionals that fail to understand the actual; status of research. Maker that much worse.

  • This fails to answer the biggest question.

For most T1D is not about not producing insulin. That is a symptom. Not the desease.

Its a genetic condition where the immune system attacks insulin producing cells. Pancras transplants have existed since the 90s. In most cases the patients become t1d again the future.

As t1ds have already done this to there own insulin producing cells. How dose adding our own reprogrammed stem cells help long term?

While it may help long term. IE when we have a sullution to the autoimmune condition. It is at best a step towards a cure.

  • I feel it is important to clarify evidence.

Numbers 5.21 is evidence of the words in the bible. So that humans who wrote the bible had no compunction with the death od a unborn fetus.

Not in anyway evidence for or against the existance of god. Or its views on any subject.

Science is agnostic. My personal view is athiest

Evidence and understanding its meanong is the difference between the 2.

This is why I habe pointed out several times I am in no way critisising your religion. Just your use of religiose like ideas to proove scientific or lefal points.

That things look the same is not evidence they are the same.

  • Your acting like you have a point.

    You dont.

And I never said anything about uour religion. It has no officialnopinion on abortion. And the bible actually gives guides to do it.

But it is freaking clear you have no idea what evidence actully is.

But non of your opinions give you the right to intimidate people rather then try to change parlimentary votes. And that is the subjeect of this law.
