  • Bouncing between Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions and The Screaming Staircase.

Algorithms is interesting but the actual algorithms aren't terribly useful so far.

The Screaming Staircase has a very neat world but not very interesting characters. I'm hoping it improves.

  • Barbarians at the Gate is a good book and the movie is also worth a watch.

When the two executives are talking and then each gets on their private plane, then continue the talk via phone in air, and then land at the same location it sets up the situation so well.

  • Twice a time period. Semi for every two time periods. So every two weeks is semiweekely. However it gets misused so often you almost always have to check making it almost useless.

    Similar to failsafe vs redundant.

  • So any stainless steel will do that. No need for a special disk. I use a stainless steel cocktail shaker to peal garlic. Then when I rinse it clean it also removes the smell from my hands.

Just drop the cloves into the shaker and shake hard for 30-45 seconds. Most of the garlic is now peeled and some just need a bit help. So much faster and easier.

  • The Jeff Wayne's War of the World's live tour did this. Richard Burton the narrator had died. So they had a giant head hanging over the stage that they projected video of him narrating on it.

That show was crazy in person. The head starts at about 8:30. https://youtu.be/wqDJiIWhpPM
