  • In college could get email, irc, and newsgroups via commandline and there were some networked games like this tank one and avatar on the plato/novanet system. I was talking with someone from china on irc and it was so wild. People would drop out of school do to irc addiction. Chatting all hours of the day in the computer room. Nothing but text but given there was nothing before it was amazing even though it sounds like such weak sauce nowadays.

  • Im not sure what to say. Problem is that tech was sorta the haven of decent pay and as far as I can tell no other industry as the capacity to absorb the tech sector people no matter their skills. Add to this some who jumped to tech did so do to having to support other people or such and anything they can get outside of it will not meet basic costs. I dunno.

  • So this cartoon can be tricky as its a sorta slice of life diary. So, theoretically at least, it is something their kid just spouted on a trip. My guess is the kid was thinking about the easter bunny portrayals like people in suits and that spurred the question. I mean when you think about it a man sized anthropomorphic bunny is sorta scary. Thats my take away. Of course the humor might also be how does an adult answer questions like this that kids bring up randomly.

  • This is interesting to me as I like to say the llms are basically another abstraction of search. Initially it was links with no real weight that had to be gone through and then various algorithms weighted the return, then the results started giving a small blurb so one did not have to follow every link, and now your basically getting a report which should have references to the sources. I would like to see this looking at how folks engage with an llm. Basically my guess is if one treats the llm as a helper and collaborates to create the product that they will remember more than if they treat it as a servant and just instructs them to do it and takes the output as is.

  • I mean you are including all babies and people in nursing homes and in prison and in the military and have jobs that they can't not go to and in psych facilities. Its still pathetic really but just pointing out using the whole population is a bit off. Also really rural is sorta hard. I can say the folks driving and being inconvenienced by it seemed jazzed and supportive in their honks and call outs (you can tell pissed off from alright) and there were folks in building windows shouting encouragement. I guess im saying I have seen protests get a lot less nice of reactions to people not in them.

  • I don't think the cold water on a hot day is about flavor. Its just as flavorless as its ever been. Its neutral and you can't get away from that without flavoring it. Bad water can taste aweful but the best is just going to be neutral. We like the taste of acidic things for some reason. Not sure why. The cold water when hot is more a craving and if for some reason you can't get ice cold water but you can soda. Even if your not a soda drinker you may guzzle the icey drink.

  • I really did not misunderstand. I want the people we are celebrating to wear anything at all they want with zero restriction. jeans and t-shirt, nice dress, uniform, whatever. If we are celebrating them then it only makes sense they do what they want to do. Attendance should not be mandatory but there should be nice perks for them if they come like food and drink and maybe a bit of swag gift bags. Let them self organize things they want to do like a school talent show. Maybe some play instruments and maybe some like the pugilist stuff they do a little choreographed presentation as they go. Let them design floats as they like and provide enough resoures to do this stuff.
