Pretty sure if they were doing that it would be a field day for lawsuits.

I can't speak for everyone or say my response is the definitive answer. But I would say it's because people actually feel safe discussing those topics. They don't necessarily have to worry about being silenced by a corporation or like they will be censored because of how the fediverse works.

Also, to be clear, no one here considers you a threat. At most you are a nuisance at this point. So really no need to defend anyone from you.

Is having an OS boot on a USB really all that useful? Serious question.

I usually just take that question to be them wanting to know if there is anything specific I want to tell them about that they might want to look into. My response is usually a lighthearted "well, I've been better but also been worse!" Or something along those lines.
