  • So when I download only some files from a torrent, it's likely that I can't seed all of those files to the next person? I have done partial leeches before and left them seeding under the impression that I could at least seed exactly those files if anyone else wanted them. If that's impossible (or at least unlikely to work because of chunking), then I might download the whole thing next time (or just leave the swarm).

  • The bandwidth of a station wagon just keeps increasing with advances in storage technology.

But a 10Gb/s line will do about 100TB in a day, so there's not that many situations left where you have enough data to make the station wagon worth the effort. Wikipedia has a few examples, with the most recent being a truck doing 100PB for AWS. I think we passed station wagon station 10 years ago.

  • It might help your comment if you replaced some theys and thems with the actual people you're referring to. It's very unclear whether you're talking about Hamas, the Israel government, the Palestine people living in the Gaza strip, the Israeli people, etc. There's a lot of different groups involved in this conflict, all with their own history and motives. It's important to be clear about who is doing what.

  • I love regex and I use it a lot, but I very rarely use it in any kind of permanent solution. When I do, I make sure to keep it as minimal as possible, supplementing with higher level programming where possible. Backreferences and assertions are a cardinal sin and should never be used.

  • The real "scorched earth" strategy:

    1. Format system drive
    2. Reinstall Arch
    3. Keep all your files on the data drive
    4. Run your personal setup script to put everything back how you like it
    5. (Optional) Be happy

Edit: forgor 6. Tell everyone you use Arch

  • I picked ani because I don't have to sub to every anime community, I can just go to the Local view and get everything I need.

  • I think instead of having fewer representatives in government, we should make government smaller by having physically smaller representatives. Like children, or gnomes.

  • They all share a belief in a "natural hierarchy". Whether that hierarchy emerges from God, the Market, or Pure Ancestors, they're very similar arguments and they all lead to similar results: An imbalance of power and a group of people (with power) who justify that imbalance with the imbalance itself (I'm better because I have power. I should have power because I'm better.)

  • You'll notice the gas, but the water comes from the acid being neutralized and won't really be detectable. You just drank a glass of water too, that's way more water than a tablespoon of baking soda can produce.

  • If you can shrink and expand stuff instantly, the thing getting bigger or smaller is the least useful part of that spell. You wouldn't even need gunpowder to launch stuff, put a shrunk cannonball against a wall, expand it, hope the wall holds and it's the cannonball that has to accelerate to light speed to not be in the same place as the wall. Or get a giant explosion, that's more likely.

  • Would that fix our carbonmonoxide weakness?

  • No no, he was just a little confused, but he meant alethiometer. It's like a compass but it points to the truth, which is pretty darn useful when trying to find your moral heading.

  • Remember the episode when the Little Einsteins worked on the Little Manhattan Project and used Rocket to drop Little Boy on 350,000 unsuspecting civilians?

  • I need this version, I was just rewatching and my version just translates it as "Shocker". It did go for "you're not only a lolicon, you're also an M (TL note: M is common Japanese slang for masochist)".

Fuck, these files have been on my disk for 10 years. Is it too late to replace them now? Won't they feel bad about being abandoned after living most of their lives on my computer?

  • Did you know that the type of a variable is determined by the frequency of plasma oscillations among the objects valence electrons?

  • For me this was The Phantom Tollbooth, but that's a 70s film, so muc older. Actually, the year I watched it on midday television after school was closer to 1970 than to the present.

  • Bit of context for the power level stuff: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/hide-your-power-level

It only became an alt-right thing because it leaked from /a/ to /b/ and to /pol/, but it wasn't originally alt-right. /w/allpapers always has a "power level" thread running with anime stuff that isn't immediately obvious to the casual observer.
