  • Moving out days are a great way to get cheap furniture. Troll apartment buildings at the end of the month and you can usually find some furniture getting thrown out. I still have some dumpster pieces that are in good condition.

  • Not characters, but places.

Earth is extremely competitive to gain any notoriety, which is really bad for a lot of people as notoriety and talent have become what is valuable in human society. People leave Earth because, while it is comfortable to live there, it is really hard to move up the social ladder. It is a lot easier to move away to get a better position, hence why humanity still colonizes other planets while Earth is paradise.

The Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarire civilizations were going into decline when the Federation was formed. This is why Humanity became the dominant species of the Federation; the other species effectively gave up trying to be powers.

  • I assume you are looking for passive methods that aren't air conditioning.

As others have said, thick walls that have a thermal mass. It helps if you open the building at night to help cool the walls.

The structure should be as light as possible, both the walls and roof, to reflect back light.

Windows should have large awnings so direct light doesn't enter during summer. Everything should be in the shade.

If you can, you can create a solar chimney by having a large and dark chimney on the south side of your building. Set your building up so that there is a natural air intake which comes from below ground, so you naturally pull in cool air.

  • The idea may be to get mods up to speed on moderation so they can take over with time.

Also, given than .ml is the developers' instance, they are likely more focused on Lemmy than most mods are. So, the admins may be more protective because they are on Lemmy more than the mods.

  • Even worse, there isn't a next generation near the size of millennials. Part of the reason that millennials took over while Gen X didn't was because of the size of the relative generations.

You're also running into the issue that culture has become a lot more fragmented due to the Internet. You can present a millennial culture where most people may be aware of other subcultures even if they weren't a part of them. I don't know if that is going to happen for Gen Z or Alpha.

  • I had a grandparent commit suicide due to being broke.

They were in relatively good health and had family nearby that could take care of them. However, it meant living at a lower quality of life, including withdrawing from some organizations because they couldn't pay their dues any more. Their partner had also passed a few years prior, so it wasn't like they were living for their spouse.

They probably could have lived for several years if they chose to and had the resources to do so. However, they chose that the reduction in quality of life wasn't with it.

  • The selection process is via an election of cardinals. Generally, if a small group elects someone for a position, that person usually comes from that voting group. Therefore, while not a requirement, an elected pope is generally a cardinal.

Beyond that, a pope has great influence over the Catholic Church. It would be very remarkable that a young person could have that much influence over the cardinals to get elected. It could happen, but the likelihood is rare.
