  • Congrats on smoking less. You'll thank yourself later when you're of the age when people start having artery problems.

Consider asking for a prescription if you need a little help stopping completely. nicotine patch and similar are included in health insurances in various places.

  • I like the idea of using renewable energy (tidal, wind) right where it's produced.

It's apparently the demonstration phase and for now rely on an power coming from elsewhere. Once it's deploy I hope they keep their promise to rely on local energy production.

  • So far, tests results with a "high" reliability are negative, ie cannot reproduce results. Looks like the claim is either false, or the conditions to get the superconducting material to work aren't so easy to get.

Let's not rush, give people a few weeks to finish tests, review the original paper, then let's see what experts in the field think.

    Edit: link

  • You're welcome.

Poket works fine in general, it's the first time I get this kind of error message when opening an article. Maybe that's a random bug in the share feature.

I typically share the original article as main link, even if there's a paywall, then add a comment with archive link(s). Bots may be one way to automatically share archive links additional. Paywalls are annoying but I tolerable them, and subscribed to a couple newspapers. It's saner for newspaper to rely on readers subscribtion than on advertiser revenu and trackers.

  • That's the way.

Finding out the person behind an online device then explain the importance of doing a reset+patch is hard enough for one person. It would have to be done for many thousandd of device on a regular basis. And many devices are setup and forgot, no one manages them.

A block may be an easier and better insentive. It would require an explicit error message. Eg "Connection blocked because malicious activity, likely from compromised device. Here are details about the compromised device model and how to patch..."

  • The shutdown is a good call given the circumstances.

An idea of less-radical preventive action is placing the instance in read-only mode, either as a Lemmy feature, or through reverse proxy settings (eg reply 503 for any POST/PUT/DELETE request). But that'd require some development and/or preparation.

Doing that on the reserve proxy side would block any user-submitted content and more (logins, searches, ...). This would hopefully be efficient at blocking many attack vectors, while still keeping the instance partially online, even if that's a degraded mode.

  • NFT sounds like a convoluted way to earn money for games. If a company can make a exciting, engaging, fun to play game, can't they just sell them? Adding NFTs into the game/gameplay might just annoy players and scare people away.

  • Things I often find lacking in videos games: good storytelling, adjustable subtitle/UI size, immersive world with adequate pattern of life (eg background characters, random environment animations, ...).

Things I don't miss: NFTs, microtransactions, constant in-game awards/points collections.
