  • Similar thing with my Mum and Dad tbh. They moved to the west country and though the house has heating it's evidently been designed when it was built to be heated most efficiently by the wood burner, which probably used to be a normal fireplace. (It's not some isolated cottage, it's just on a street, just to clarify...)

Theres a radiator in the spare room when we stay for instance but it might as well not be there for all the heat it manages.

So I think they'd be in an identical situation to you, they'd have to do up the whole house before it would even be worth looking at. But since they get hot water and they don't freeze in winter they just stick with what they've got because they don't really want to pay messing around with the house.

  • I did look into it when we had someone round talking about the government grant. But the grant is nowhere near enough to cover the overall cost for us.

From what I understand it's suitable for some homes and not for others - I think it's a great idea but might leave it a while until the technology improves and the whole thing doesn't cost as much (our boiler is quite old so we probably should do something about it)

  • I'm on Citalopram as well but also on different epilepsy medications. I once went away overnight having forgotten to pack any medication and I won't be doing that ever again. I was a complete mess. Luckily didn't have a seizure but sticking to water seemed drunk one minute and hyper the next as all the various uppers and downers left my system...

Got myself home soon as, took the medication and went to bed.

  • I've become pretty convinced over the last few years they should just clamp down on all non-refillable devices. I have a feeling this would stop a lot of teen vaping, because messing about with coils and liquids takes any glamour out of the thing

  • I've been vaping for nearly a decade now but I agree with getting rid of these disposables. Totally bad for the environment.

And since these are the ones that teens are said to be using in schools it might kill 2 birds with one stone.

  • I was wondering which actor would be able to convincingly take on the roles of British pilot, German scientist and American president on stage each of which have very different comedic styles? A demanding part!

Iannucci is great at casting highly talented people who are relatively unknown but right for the part though

  • I don't see how it would 'fuck Reddit'. Do you mean it would draw more people to using Lemmy/Kbin? Or have I misunderstood? Because that's definitely not going to happen.

And if you want to see that stuff just go back to using Reddit.

  • Maybe 2 or 3 times a week. There's some support communities on there that I'm a part of and check in with on there.

But learning about Reddit's behaviour the last month or so has been something of an eye opener and for now I'm enjoying exploring here (and actually reading ebooks again) as an alternative

  • I think it's more of a mass giving up on Reddit. Some people might come here, some people might go elsewhere, some people might use it to digital detox.

But the 'mass' bit will probably be ex mods, power users and people who cared about the way Reddit was being run - a sizeable number but definitely not a majority of users. But crucially a lot of the people who helped to provide quality content.

Despite the hate he gets, Spez is not quite as batshit crazy as Musk (he still is coming up with shit ideas for the future of Reddit though). So although I think Reddit will become a much less interesting place it probably won't become an unuseable dumpster fire for casual users (like Twitter).

  • Trump ran Miss Teen USA and Miss Universe pageants and bragged about walking around the dressing rooms and seeing the contestants completely nude because he was the owner and there was nothing they could do to stop him.

The guy just can't get any worse the more I hear about him. Jesus.

He's the most unlikely hero for any movement, anywhere, ever. But we are where we are. Have you seen those Ben Garrison cartoons where Trump is drawn to have the physique of superman? It's all madness

  • I started using it with SwiftKey and when that went shit started using it with Gboard so probably 10 years...? If I have to do it cave man style it feels impossibly slow. My wife still types each individual letter out quite happily.

It's ironic because I used to have a BlackBerry back in the day and thought I wouldn't be able to cope without a physical keyboard

  • Gotcha. That's pretty cool. I don't suppose there's a reason why just those specific places (instances?) defederated?

Either way, I like the general mashup of being able to see pretty much anything from anywhere here. Organised chaos in a positive sense, bring it on!
