So if the problem is people excluding others because that person practices a different religion, then the problem isn't the person practicing the religion, it's the fuck sticks excluding them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of religion. I'm fairly anti-theistic. Especially for the Abraham's religion. And out of the three, especially Islam. I am also against the religion telling women how to dress for the reasons they do.

But I don't think this should be the schools decision. I don't think they should tell kids they can't dress a certain way based on the fact that it's religious. If a kid wants to wear a cross necklace or a shirt that says something about Jesus, cool. A Yamaha? That's fine. I might not personally be for it, and think it'd weird for kids, but also I don't think that's for me or the school to decide.

Secularism doesn't necesarily mean keeping religion out of everyone's life. Just out of the government and school. Teachers shouldn't preach it. Laws shouldn't be mandated around it. But that doesn't mean no one gets to practice it in anyway shape or form. It just means they don't have any say I no the system based on their religion.

And banning something because it's also worn by fundamentalist makes it sound even dumber. I was raised Mormon. They wear a lot of things people wear on a lot of occasions. I wouldn't say to ban those types of clothing because the Mormons wear them. That's fucking stupid. No more long sleeve shirts? How about blouses? If a woman happens to like those, too bad apperantly. Fundamentalists also wear them, so now they're no longer allowed.

Edit: Since I've got almost nothing going on at work, let me try and explain my point of view. It might be hard to follow an adult conversation, but maybe try.

They are not banning this for any moral reason about misogyny. To champion it for that reason is dumb because that's not what's happening. I'm personally a fan of talking about things happening as they are happening. We are not seeing France fight Islam and the way they oppress women. It's them saying people can't wear religious things. This includes things like a cross necklace, or a yamaka. Personally, I am agaisnt this. I don't think it should be the schools decision on things like that. Secularism in a system doesn't have to be against these things. It just means the rules are written without influence from them. I don't think religious clothes hurt peope simply for being religious. I don't get offended if someone wears a cross necklace or something like that.

But this also means it's not them fighting for women. It's just them being against religious articles of clothing over all

No. I'm actually pretty anti-theistic. More so with the Abraham's religions. I was actually raised Mormon, and while not as extreme as Islam, they do have very similar views on modesty with women that they don't extent anywhere near to the same extent with men. So I have seen the harm things like this cause. And I agree that it is a choice, but also not really since they are taught this is the way to live and to not do so makes you a terrible person. That if they don't cover their porn shoulders they're gonna get pregnant and have STDs. Shit like that fucks with women.

However, I don't think it's the schools job to do that. I can understand and agree with head coverings. But if it's just the dress, then no.

There's also the aspect that, as others have pointed out, it's not just religious. It's also cultural. If you grow up in those regions, even if you're not Islamic, you would likely still wear one. Because it's just a part of their culture. Just like how jeans and t-shirts are fairly common in the US. I lived in Florida, and flip flops were fairly common. Moved up north, and not so much. Different cultures have certain types of clothing that are fairly common. It doesn't have to be religious. So in that aspect I think it's also a oversight in that some might not be wearing it for cultural reasons so much as it's just what they wear.

None of this means I support misogyny. I just don't beleive in an oppressive government doing things like this. If they don't like it, then they should implement a law where students wear a uniform.

I don't disagree. But there's also the other side of things: Some of us are terrified of being round up and thrown in camps. Its not hard to see when they are using the same play book as the Nazis, who got a lot of influence from the US. And while I'm not saying we shouldn't ban guns. It has worked for a lot of countries. And I think it's a great idea. But there's a point where I also need to be able protect myself. They're already stocked up. Banning guns doesn't change that. So if they do decide to start a civil war, they're already prepared. Is it gonna be like how it used to be where each side stands opposite each other in a field and shoot at each other? No. It's been talked about how it will likely be a lot of terrorist attacks. But if it gives some people a fighting chance, then they might need it.

Will I need it? Not as likely. For starters, I live in Portland. It's not likely I'm gonna have any issues. But for some other queer people in some towns and states, this might eventually be it for them.

Does it need to be? Like if they want everyone to wear something very specific and French, then they should do uniforms. Until then, no one is required to wear something of "French culture." Like I'm a huge fan of punk and metal. I'm 34 years old and still wear band shirts. It's arguably not the typical culture of my country, but should that matter? Would kids be kicked out of school for that?

I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Moving and still have to get through BG3. But I'm actually excited for it. Like I see posts over and over and over and over and over and over about the the fact that it's not NMS. Sure, kind of disappointing. And I will agree that if you keep running into the same exact structures over and over, maybe they could have done something different. Have some sort of procedurally generated structures.

But that seems to mostly be it. Every review I've watched talks pretty positively about the other aspects. It's got some bugs, which is to he expected, and apperantly the melee combat isn't clunky and awkward. But those seem to be the biggest complaints outside of not being able to land.

So I'm gonna do what I've seen a lot of people said to do. I'm gonna go into the Bethesda game and play it largely like it's a Bethesda game. Gonna go through the main story, the different factions, do some side quests, etc.

It's not No Man's Sky. Cool. Call of Duty isn't Escape From Tarkov. I have played both of those and loved them both for completely different reasons, and I don't expect them both to be the same. If anything I got bored of No Man's Sky after a bit. Partially because I'm just not into the base building, and itnfelt like that was the main thing to do outside of explore. Little to no stories. Last I heard we still don't have the faction system they talked about when the game was first launching. Starfield has things going for it over NMS.

That was one direction I considered going. On one hand, i have pretty much pretty much everything up to the PS2 and GameCube that can run on my phone, but it would be awesome to have the option for some PS3 games. However, it is a bit of a mixed bag. Some games it can handle perfectly fine. Some of them I would absolutely love to have mobile. But there's also a few others that it's not quite there for. I want to say someone tried on the ROG Ally, and it did test a little bit better, so that would be an option as well.

But I also just don't know how often I would use it. Like I got a Switch when it came out, and I feel like I mostly use it docked at home. It's big, it's awkward trying to get it out of its case and get comfortable while on the bus. On the other hand it's a lot easier to just have a smaller controller I can slap on my phone.

But I haven't written it off yet. Because like I said, some games would be awesome to have. And a lot of the ports I would like to take with my that they put on the Switch tend to be downgraded visually, so it would look better on a portable PC instead.

I actually go to GOG first when possible specifically for this reason.

You're right Sarah! You are the good guys, and there is just no point. Might as well stop trying to over throw the government and terrorizing marginalized communities. Even voting. It's a lost cause. The deep state will come after you for interfering with their plans, so just stay home. Protest the system by being quiet and not participating.

On top of the other comments, I'm also depressed because I don't see myself having much of a future. I'm likely not going to be able to retire because I won't be able to afford it. We are already seeing people reite later and later. It's a slow build, sure. But where are we gonna be in the next 30 years when I should be at that age? Am I gonna be working till I'm 75? Can we even retire at all? Most of us can't get enough money to build a retirement fund. We are way behind fancially where we should be. That's not only harming us now, but at this point I've seen a lot of people say they just don't have any hope at retirement. It's just no longer a thing people are striving for, because it doesn't look like it's gonna be possible. Right now you're looking at needing around a million for many people, and we can't even get a couple thousand saved up.

On top of that, I have to worry about global warming. Which not only will fuck up things even more for the stuff in the first part, but I don't even know if I'll be alive to retire. And living is gonna fucking suck in so many ways. I'm in Oregon, and we have fires every year now. Last year we had some days reach 115°F. Things are going to be fucked.

It's sometimes hard to be happy and optimistic when there's not a lot to look forward to in the future.

What's it like going from the US to Australia on a more personal level? It was probably a year ago, but on the Australia subreddit there was a post relating somehow to the US. I don't remember what it was. I left a comment saying me and my boyfriend wanted out, and were looming at places to move to. Everyone was really helpful, and it's atm towards the top of the list of places.

But I also haven't heard much of anything what it's like going from our culture to there's, how people treat people moving there, etc. I imagine it's not a super huge change, but still curious as to what sort of things I shoukd expect if we do go there.

That was probably a good idea. I made it about 30 minutes in. The movie kept moving further and further away from the books. And it was in the weirdest ways. I'm not sure what all it showed in the first 5 minutes, but Randal suddenly has a group of people to help him, and they're using sifi technology with computers to open portals instead of the doors. I get things will always change from book to movie. I go in expecting it. And usually it's not a huge deal. But I just don't get the decisions they decided to make.
