  • If you look at this from an entirely cynical lens, backing Kojima is the sensible choice. Kojima wasn't leaving the industry. He would have a high level, influential job wherever he ended up.

At the same time, Konami was publicly backing out of the games industry. Konami is a multimedia company with many divisions. Their casinos are far more profitable than their games, so they were making major cuts to their gaming division.

Backing the major industry figure against the company that doesn't want to make games anymore is what anyone running a show like the game awards would optimally do. That's why you shouldn't consider it a principled stance.

  • And yet the project still is up.

Dolphin has a defense. There is a reverse engineering exemption to the DMCA that Dolphin is likely protected by. Dolphin's use of the keys might be entirely legal. If this went to court there's a reasonable chance Dolphin could win. It wouldn't be a clear-cut case at best.

The other thing protecting Dolphin is the fact Dolphin does not make money. They do not solicit donations publicly. Nintendo doesn't have easily citable patreon numbers to add to the damages, nor would Dolphin have the means to pay nintendo even if they won.

Taking Dolphin to court is a bad idea for nintendo. All risk, no reward. Keeps Dolphin safe unless one of those things changes, like putting it on steam.

  • Keighly has a history of working in games media to publicise games. He was never an investigative reporter publishing things the industry didn't want talked about. If you read his writing from before starting the game awards, it was like most gaming media, little more than third party advertising for upcoming games.

The thing with Kojima wasn't some principled stance against injustice. He gave the award he was scheduled despite konami's decision. That's showbusiness. The awards are the result of a vote. Had konami allowed Kojima to attend, he wouldn't have mentioned the firing.

Many asked Keighly to mention the layoffs at his show. Those familiar with his work knew not to expect it. The show is funded by games publishers. Calling out one publisher is fine in some circumstances. Calling out the industry as a whole is a good way to make this show your last.

  • Ryujinx, Dolphin, Mupen64, Cemu, Visual Boy Advance, BizHawk, RetroArch, Snes9x, Mesen, and others are emulators of Nintendo consoles that have not been taken down by Nintendo.

There are some important rules to follow if you want to make an emulator. Yuzu made some big mistakes. It's legal to build an emulator. It's not legal to profit from encouraging from piracy, or circumventing DRM which is what Yuzu did.

  • Did you read the article? The bill bans tiktok for being foreign. There is nothing in this article that describes a bill that outlaws any practices, conventions, or actions that tiktok has done.

Being afraid of foreigners for being foreign is not effective regulation.

  • They literally call their hydrogen car the future. Toyota has been trying, and is still avoiding making purely electric vehicles.

Of all their models, Toyota only sells one EV in the US. Your aspirational assumptions about Toyota are nothing more than that.

  • Conditioner can clog your pores and cause irritation to your skin. As long as you're careful with it conditioner is unlikely to cause problems when used on your hair.

Short hair doesn't need or benefit much from conditioner. I would recommended trying shampoo only, and adding conditioner only if needed.

How short is your hair actually? Short hair for a man can mean something different than short hair for a woman. Men rarely use conditioner so if your hair is the length of an ordinary men's style you're probably fine without.

  • The undecided voters that matters are the ones who are undecided about voting at all.

Being marginally less shitty than the opposition is not a winning strategy. It's hard to convince people to not stay home without offering something substantial.
