  • What's a bump stock? Went to read about them; the inventing company has stopped making them, are they still easy to get?

They popped up the range targets, so not as tight as a packed crowd, but you'd think at least one would get hit. My impression was that it was really hard to control the recoil making the barrel going up, so most of my rounds just went over the targets.

  • As much as USA is pro-gun, I thought automatics are not sold?

Regardless as the other comment says, firing on full auto is a waste of ammo. Back in service our first range practice we were given the Rambo-fantasy; hip firing at full auto at 10 metres out. No one hit any of the targets. It was a lesson to us that firearms, as easy as they are to use, needed at least some skill to be effective.

  • Windows already works on ARM, but some X86 programs are still a little slow. The Snapdragons previously used weren't as fast as the Apple silicon too, so that didn't help. The original Surface X did have a lot more problems, but Surface 9 on ARM from all reports works well.

  • Read some reviews, the flaws don't sound great. It also didn't get very high ratings, so probably they saw the writing on the wall for this one.

Sleeper hits don't make money in games too, I guess, with the way sales are done. Usually most of the money is made within the first month or so, right? I'm guessing they did some analysis and felt that the money wouldn't be coming in.

  • Isreal soldiers have been doing a fair amount of fighting over the years too, including the last decade. Maybe each soldier on average isn't the hardened vet the average Ukranian soldier is now, but the amount of instituional knowledge IDF has is not to be sneered at.

It definitely is a political play, like you said. More support from Israel for Ukraine, and maybe less support to Russia. I believe Israel is maintaining some nominal relation to Russia due to their histories.

  • I think that's how some creators do get paid. Large enough channels will get some form of revenue sharing from YouTube. That's why when a video is demonetised the creators get very upset. As is when YT does some fuckery with their algorithms and their views plummet.

Mind, the rates keep getting worse, from what I hear. Hence more and more pateron and in-video promos, it's a better and more stable source of income.

  • Yea, but the cost of having FB acquire your data doesn't feel so... worth it? I'm not completely privacy-focused like many on the fediverse but I do view it as a trade-off, and at US$500 the trade-off no longer feels warranted.

Was thinking about the HP Reverb G2, it's a little more expensive than the Quest 3, last I checked.

  • This is starting to really get on my nerves, and I feel like discourse on the fediverse is worse; basically the attitude is that if it's not FOSS and self-hosted, it's shite. That attitude is fucking grating for the rest of us.

  • This is definitely giving me flashbacks during my time in the corporate world. There was one report that was replete with copy and pasting, the poor lady who used to do it apparently had to pull all-nighters doing it. I rebuilt everything in Access using some SQL and the new process only took 15 minutes to run.
