I had crush on this girl in my class, Julia. We were 13 maybe 14 I don’t quite remember. I had a crush but was to chicken to act on it. Then one day I get a love note. From Julia. She’s left handed and the note is obviously written by a left handed person too. I’m super stoked. Write the reply back and sneak it into her back pack… days go by, weeks go by, nothing… wtf?! when I was 15 I moved very long distance and that was that.

Then with Facebook a lot of my old classmates started popping up there and I’ve added a lot of them and we reminisced about the old times. So curiosity is killing me. I ask Julia if she’s ever did notes. She never mentioned my note but said she was never into them and never wrote a single one. Wtf #2?!

Then it hit me. You see, in the class of 27 we had two left handed Julia’s. And the other one always acted odd when I was around. But I never paid any attention to it.

My 3 year old still wakes up 3-5 times a night 😭

I think a lot of American privacy/security folks start with realizing the US government isn’t about privacy, so they want smaller government, but the only party pushing for smaller government pushes bigoted views to so the privacy folks get sucked into that mental space… not condoning them at all but I think this situation is the result of two-party government. I’m in security sector, but I do research and so there are a lot more left-leaning people around me. Sorry I don’t know any podcasts to recommend though.

I think the best solution there is so far is to require captcha for every upvote but that’d lead to poor user experience. I guess it’s the cost benefit of user experience degrading through fake upvotes vs through requiring captcha.

To be fair, new programmers generally don’t know enough to construct a proper Google query either. And yes there are some lazy people who just don’t try. But sometimes you know what you want to achieve but any query you try seems to be unhelpful. For example, if I want to learn how to store settings in c++ the first link for me tells me to use boost. Now I need to learn about linking libraries and 300 other boost-isms. While anyone with any basic knowledge could recommend reading strings line by line and splitting the string on the equal sign.
