  • I am an engineer. I love making things. I work in a heavily regulated industry (Med device), and it is a huge pain in the ass. I have to fill out obscene amounts of paperwork for everything I do. I live in the woods with a well and a septic system. I am hoping to disconnect from the electric grid in a few years.

I bought into rugged individualism when I was younger, but I have come to realize it is a farce. I am really glad there is the structure and oversight for these things that can harm people. Complex systems require diverse areas of expertise and multiple layers of oversight and protection.

The sentiment that it is some great burden to "obtain permission from men who do nothing" is a blatant strawman for what the processes actually are.

  • You have a point, however, there seems to be a difference in severity. It's like how openly and aggressively racist some of these folks have gotten. Sure, they always probably harbored those feelings, but now they are more brazen about it, and the behavior is getting worse as a result.

  • "Reactor production is limited during times of high heat to prevent the hot water re-entering rivers from damaging wildlife."

So it's not due to any physical limitations but an environmental protection issue.

    Also in the article

"... at a time when half its reactors are offline due to maintenance and corrosion issues."

So they are doing maintenance and found some issues requiring more work.

  • Most of us have no idea how most of the world works. We live in a complicated society, nobody can be an expert about everything. Admit it or not we all rely on experts every day.

The problem with experts is they can use facts and knowledge to challenge people in power. So people in power foment anti-intellectualism and push a nonsense naritive that we are all rugged individuals. You know better than the so called experts.

    This is the result.

  • Or, you know, don't add sugar at all. Iced tea doesn't need it.

When you stop guzzling that sort of syrupy sludge drinks start becoming refreshing. They quench your thirst instead of making you want to grab some pork rinds and a side of insulin.

  • You couldn't make it the disgusting super saturated diabetes juice like they do in the south without heating it though. Mr 'Im not racist but....' is actually right about that.

  • I've got 11 years.

I've been meaning to delete my content and then sell it to spammers. I don't actually care about the $10 or whatever I'd get. Its just some petty revenge on my part... Like pissing on your desk before you quit.

  • I'm 70-80% sure I smoked weed with one of the ninjas, it was probably around 2000, or 2001 and in Pasadena. I wanna say somewhere around Del Mar and Sierra Madre. I wanna say it was Max Slade? Years and smoke make the details hazy.
